I am considering a HRM, but I have a few questions.
Are the ones without the chest strap reliable?
Which one is a good general product?

You need a chest strap, they are more accurate and you get a continous read. I think the ones without a strap you have to push a button on the watch to get a read, but I may be wrong. I have only used straps.
Any of the Polar are good. I have polar f6, and alot of ppl like polar f7.0 -
I have a Polar and am very happy with it. I don't recommend getting one without a strap. They are not uncomfortable if that's something you're worried about0

they really aren't uncomfortable, as the pp said... i just finished my workout an hour ago, and i forgot to take mine off! : 30

I recommend the strap too; it is much more accurate and also it is NOT uncomfortable nor does it irrate my skin, etc.0
