Smoothies

Okay, So I just made smoothie packs for the freezer for morning meals. As I am drinking one now (started drinking about 40 minutes ago) I am full. I have half left! This is whats in it.
3 tbsp dannon vanilla yogurt
1/2 banana
1/2 c spinach
1.5 c triple berry mix (melody of blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries)
1 c 1%milk
1 scoop of whey protein powder
Is this too much? Im new to this whole smoothie thing and am trying so any help or advice would be great!

If you can't eat the volume, try reducing the mix to 2 or less tbsp of yogurt, and only a half scoop of Protein. See if it thins it out a bit so you can drink the entire smoothie. Play with rations, mayve even just 1 cup of mixed berries and half water/half 1% milk.0

Another great item for smoothies is unsweetened almond milk instead of regular milk. Less sugar, healthier and it makes the flavor of a smoothie ridiculously great.0 -
Looks like a good smoothie to me. My smoothie advise is freeze the banana. Frozen bananas are the best thing ever for smoothies, they are also great for getting them thicker.0

I make a very similar smoothie except I use almond milk because I I usually throw a mix of fruits in the smoothie and I have found that milk can curdle in the presence of citrus. yuck :grumble:0

Looks good, but I would cut down on the fruit and increase the greens.
Also you can substitute water for the milk and freeze your fruits like Joreanasaurou stated.

Last night I prepared it. I put the yogurt into ice cube trays and sliced banana and put them on a cookie sheet and froze it. This morning I assembled it and put them into their own baggies so I can just grab, blend, and go. I bought peaches to since they were on sale, but they are not ripe yet. Once those get ripe I'm going to slice and freeze them too.
The smoothie was very foamy if I had to describe it. Not sure if I blended it too long (if you can even do that). It was extremely filling and took me an hour to drink. I think I will try it with less milk or do the milk/water combination. I have OJ but I didnt think that would taste too good with the berries/banana combo. I bought reg OJ and OJ with Banana. Ill figure it out. But as it stands, its too much for me (thats what she said).0 -

Exactly! Experiment with different leafy green/fruit mixtures. I have greatly lessened the fruit I add, since I began green smoothy-ing back in early 2007. The fruit is just for flavor and some sweetness. I don't add any sweetener anymore. I developed such a taste for the greens over the years. The point is getting the raw greens into you anyway...or at least, that is *my* focus.
I drink a quart of green smoothie per day. If I'm traveling, I also will pre-make them, freeze them, and then take one out each morning to begin thawing. I put them in large-mouthed, BPA-free, 32 oz. bottles. I drink them over a period of time. I usually take and hour or two to finish one, depending on what activities I'm engaged in while drinking them.
I don't put any dairy in my green smoothies. However, I do also make shakes...especially on lift days, using whey protein and almond milk, that are more like an ice cream shake than a smoothie.
My green smoothies always have banana and lemon in them, then usually some sort of berry, mango, peaches, etc... and lots and lots of green leafy veggies. I never do the same type of leafy two days in a row. For instance, if I've had a brassica smoothie one day, the next day I won't do a brassica (cabbage, kale, bok choy, broccoli, etc...) I'll do something like parsley, or celery, or maybe chard or something else from the beet/spinach family of veggies.
Anyway...Experimenting is key! Have fun with it and get a very good blender. Vitamix is unbeatable for folks who are making smoothies and such everyday.
Edit: This year, I started also adding Garden of Life "Raw Protein" to my green smoothies. It is a plant based, non-soy, raw, organic protein.0
