Bad Weekend

I also had a bad weekend. After a family gathering of sorts an entire buffet of sweets was sent home with us. I did alright the actual day of the gathering. I had saved calories for the occasion and only went over slightly on Saturday.
Sunday...
I woke up Sunday with all intents of cutting back a little bit to make up for the bigger day I had on Saturday. Then the the costco toffee/nut chocolate squares looked my way, as did the cheescake and cake balls. The red vine got in the mix and so did the Australian Licorice bag. Chipotle ended this binge of tyranny. I think all in all I had about a 6000 calorie day.
I felt physically awful this morning waking up, and the work out had to be postponed until tomorrow. The window of time I had for it was when I felt like I needed to live on the toilet. I will still get in my daily 5 mile dog walk today which will help. I've also decided to put in a 16 hour fast to try to burn away some of the excess sugar and glycogen sitting in my system. I'll eat a very fiber/protein meal about an hour after the walk to help ease my system back into the correct gear.
Going forward I have to put in two hard gym workouts this week and reduce by about 300 extra calories a day to slowly get back into fighting form. The lesson I learned was not to put myself in such a stupid position. Free range eating is fine if your a hunter gatherer from primal times, but in a world where they can pack 150 calories into one bite... it just doesn't work. Since I've stripped my diet down to the (normally) Paleo bare bones approach, I can feel the addicting effect of sugar and carbs within minutes of eating them. Literally, my body was going into snatch grab eat mode within minutes of those sugary carbs mixing around in my stomach.
Personally the structure of my normal work day seems to protect me from diverting of course too much in any direction, but the weekends unpredictable schedules and innate "weekendy" feeling are where I struggle. Strict planning is the only way to go, and shear avoidance of situations are the only way I know how to make continued forward progress in this health game.
We live in an extremely unhealthy world, finding a way to mentally step away from that is my biggest challenge.0 -
I keep from having a bad weekend by not absolving myself of personal responsibility by attributing my willpower to some raspberry supplement. I also keep from having a bad weekend by not deciding that I'm having a "cheat weekend." A cheat *weekend*? Seriously? Sounds like a great way to erase 2 weeks of work.
Forget the supplement. It's silly and useless snake oil. Take responsibility for your eating. Don't fall into the trap of gym = health where you start eating bad as soon as you start skipping gym days. Weight loss is calorie deficit, which means weight loss is calorie control. If you're not controlling calorie intake, you won't lose weight. The gym is basically irrelevant.
Plan ahead for indulgences and fit them into your daily goals. If you spend two weeks telling yourself that you're "on a diet" and can't have pizza, you will end up telling yourself "I'll make this a cheat weekend and have pizza" and binge on it for two days, erasing the two weeks of progress. Instead, plan ahead to leave room in your calorie goal for one day to have a few slices of pizza.
