Weight Watchers Smart Ones Frozen Dinners

I've never officially joined Weight Watchers, but I've eaten their frozen entrees for lunch almost everyday for the past six months or so. I thought it was a good option since it's quick and each entree usually has less than 300 calories. I'm now wondering if I'm consuming too much sodium and hampering my weight loss? I've lost 21 pounds since January (14 since I joined MFP in April) and I'm losing approximately 1 pound/week when I feel like I should be losing 2 given my calorie intake, amount of exercise, and current weight (200 pounds). Any advice is appreciated!

I used to eat them everyday as well. I stopped because of the sodium and because I was eating so few calories at lunch that I found myself eating large suppers to make up for the daily calories. Eating large dinners, I felt, wasn't benefiting me at all. I still keep a few in my freezer for when I have no food in my house or when I'm really in a hurry.

That said, Smart Ones alone will not hamper your weight loss. You have to look at your diary as a whole. Plus, if you don't have a ton to lose, you probably won't lose two pounds a week anyway. Be happy with and proud of your one pound a week loss!

Frozen meals = processed, high sodium crap food. Stay away from them as much as possible!

I eat those for lunch as well but always supplement with fruit or yogurt since the calories are quite low and I find myself getting too hungry before dinner. The sodium can be a bit high but if you are drinking enough water should not really hurt your weight loss at all. :)

I don't think high sodium is hampering your weight loss .... 1 lb a week is great! ...... I'm lucky to see 1/2 pound a week (15 more to go!). The closer you get to goal - the slower it comes off. What Manders said - be sure to drink lots of water.

I like to add veggies to frozen meals, they never seem to have enough veggies. The extra fiber is filling too.

Seems like you are losing at a decent rate.

Personally I don't eat the frozen meals. I think they taste like crap and are filled with far too much crap and sodium. I prefer to make my own for much less money, higher quality and much better nutrition.

I'm with you on this - I'm trying to stay away from processed stuff as much as I can, while trying not to let my grocery budget get out of hand, and I'm just failing miserably, lol. I don't know how many more days in a row I can really eat a PB&J sandwich at my desk without wanting to pop my head off.

I just don't have the time in the mornings (or I've come to terms with the fact that I'm simply too lazy) to put together a lunch for myself everyday - nor can I afford it. I also find that when I'm trying to eat fresh and healthy, I'm at the grocery store every 3-4 days because the foods only stay good for so long. Ain't nobody got time for that.

And like someone else said, my work happens to be right at the epicenter of fast food options... some of my old favorites were McDonalds and the local pizza place - so at least I'm not resorting to my old habits! haha. I'm planning to start bringing some Smart Ones or Lean Cuisines or whatever for lunch, and just bring along some fruit or yogurt for the side and hoping it'll help keep me on track and away from McDonalds cheeseburgers!

I think as long as you're aware of the sodium content and selective about which ones you're buying and always reading labels, you can make it work!

Healthy eating doesn't have to be expensive! Shop around and find the cheapest grocery store in your area to do your shopping at. PLan your meals around what's on sale.

On a day off wash and cut up a bunch of lettuce or other salad greens. Pop in a large covered bowl in the fridge. Have a bag of washed and chopped salad toppings. Quick and easy salad ready. Get chicken breast when it's on sale and baked a bunch. Slice for salads, sandwiches, wraps, etc.

I personally find for the food you get those frozen meals are more expensive than making one yourself.

Make your own meals to freeze and take to work. Cook up a bunch of rice. Add in some sliced chicken and some frozen veggies. Portion it all and freeze.

Make extra when you make dinner for the next days' lunch or for freezing for future lunches.

I can feed my husband, myself and one dog on $60 a week and it is all fresh foods.

Thank you for the ideas! :) I think I'll have to give some of those a try!
