What kind of Oatmeal are you eating that you're getting 33 grams of sugar from it? You should be eating whole, natural oatmeal. If you have any sugar it should be a pinch of brown sugar to make it just bearable to eat (I can't stand oatmeal and never eat it!). Remember that sugar occurs naturally in fruits and vegetables, so you should be very careful to avoid food with added sugar (like pre-packaged oatmeal, cereals, etc). Everything has added sugar these days which is why it's always sound advice to yourself to eat natural food. If it comes from a box, don't eat it. Plain and simple. If it does come from a box (like noodles), make sure it doesn't contain enriched flour (white or wheat - yes there can be enriched wheat flour). Always try for whole grain, and no sugar added. Beware the "sugar free" trap though! Usually sugar free just means added fat. Try researching diabetic diets. They're aimed toward low to no sugar intake and there are literally tens of thousands of diabetic recipes and websites out there.0

Unless you have a medical reason to monitor your sugar intake, don't worry about it.

Stay away from processed foods. Those are always loaded with sugar. Especially breakfast cereal or flavored oatmeal. Switch to steal cut oats and a little fresh fruit and it will be better already!0

You spent more time doing THIS than you did simply giving her an answer! :frown:
First, I gave her an answer. Second, doing THAT enables her to a) learn about the search function so as not to clog the boards even further and b) provides links to where she can further educate herself.
Oh. And btw, you spent more time quoting my post and responding to me than you did giving her an answer. Oh wait. You didn't give her an answer. :huh:0 -
Sugar is just a carb. As long as you're eating enough fats and protein, your carbs/sugar aren't particularly important unless you have a medical issue that requires carbs/sugar to be monitored.
However, it should be noted that fructose and sucrose can only be stored as liver glycogen and not muscle glycogen. The liver can hold 100-120g glycogen so anything more than that will be converted to triglycerides. As long as you still have a calorie deficit this will even out. Just try to make most of your carbs glucose and not sucrose or fructose. Fructose in particular has been shown to decrease exercise performance, increased likelihood of gastrointestinal distress, and increase perception of exertion.
Here are some studies:

As long as you're under your calorie goal, you'll lose weight. Some people find that sugar (even from fruit) causes them to have more sugar/carb cravings so keep that in mind.

Why stay away from processed foods again? Also, what's wrong with sugar? That's right, no proven reason & nothing.0 -

I like how everyone jumped on the oatmeal as being processed for having so much sugar, and completely ignored the fact that she said FRUIT with it.0 -
Glad you got your info and just to note your NOT clogging the boards. We're all here to support each other and no question is stupid or a bother to us. Especially for newbies who aren't savvy on how things work yet. Good luck!!0

I love when shills post on MFP. w00t keep going guys its only a paycheck!:drinker:
I try to avoid the anything white. If I use sugar, I use it sparingly. Stick to fruits and natural honey for a sweet "fix". Remember, the key is moderation.

I wouldn't worry too much about the sugar in fruit
Its the sugar in processed things that's the problem!!!!0
