To Hydroxycut, or Not To Hydroxycut

I know that there will be several opinions out there about this product. I'm curious to know what all you specialists, trainers and those who are fit and healthy in general think.
I've been taking Hydroxycut on and off for a while. I love it, because when I'm doing my workouts and eating properly, it really kicks it up a few notches!!! My weight loss really becomes significant.
Problem is; It makes me feel like $h!t when I'm on it. Like actually ill enough that I sometimes have to lie down for a bit! I don't take the full dose, I take about 2/3, as when I attempted to take the full dose, I couldn't sleep and was really knocked on my @$$!
So...thoughts? For those of you who have been on it, do you find this feeling subsides after a while? Anyone try any alternatives that they like better with the same good effects?

Don't take pills - there's your magic answer!
I lost all my weight (more than MFP on my ticker, I had lost 42 pounds in 2011, 167 down to 125) with diet and exercise. No pills, no magic drink, no "diets".0 -

Cliffnotes: So, like, this product, like, totally makes me ill. I feel super sick and stuff. Should I, like, keep taking it anyway?

It landed my co-worker in the hospital. I would not recommend it.0

Many moons ago I tried Zantrex. The first day I was mildly uncomfortable. The second day I felt a little bit worse. The third day I suffered from cramping so bad that I had to call a friend to pick me up from work (which, luckily, was a part-time clerk gig for a small local paper) because I was completely incapacitated AND it felt like I was suffering from a fever. There was no fourth day.
All weight loss pill are more or less the same. The ingredients may differ, but none of them are good for you.0 -

Don't give a supplement the power. It is YOU achieving the weight loss, not some pill.0

It's making you feel terrible & sick....so no.0

...because when I'm doing my workouts and eating properly, my weight loss really becomes significant.
There. Fixed it for ya.
It's not the stimulant (because that's essentially all it is) that gets your weight loss moving, it's exercising and eating properly that are going to move the scale and make you healthier.
Save the money you would spend on that quackery and invest in a clothes shopping spree when you hit your goal instead. You won't regret it.0 -
STOP taking it, really is it worth it?0

LOL....absolutely love this pic!
But back to the OP. So I am not a specialist, trainer nor am I particularly fit and healthy (at the current moment). But I have taken alot of these types of pills in the past. I did it mostly as an energy boost since I worked long hours. The arrogance of youth made me think I was invincible, I suppose. That is, until Mother Nature gave me a wake up call. One day, my chest literally shot forward (as if someone pushed me from behind), It felt as if my heart tried to rip through my chest. That was the last time I ever took those things. I suggest you stop, too.
One last note...I know there are a few posts here mocking you, but I am not going to do that. However, I would like to give you something to think about.
I am not so sure hydroxycut is doing what you think it is. Energy boost...sure. I forget the active ingredient that is doing this for you, but it is also the same thing that made my heart pound really hard. As far as the weight loss goes, I think all you are doing is losing water weight. Hydro (hydrogen) + Oxy (oxygen) + Cut = water loss to me. As MyPureSteez said, he felt extremely thirsty when he took it.
Anyway, something to think about. I am pretty out of the loop when it comes to popping pills, but I do seem to remember the commercials for hydroxycut when it first came out. I want to say it was leaning towards people who were pretty ripped already and just needed to lose the last few pounds (pre-competition, perhaps).
Good luck with whatever you decide to do, but from my prior experience, I would strongly recommend not taking metabolism enhancers/weight loss pills.0 -
If you feel stick...why would you keep taking them?
I've toyed with a few different ones in the past and the only ones that didn't make me feel sick are Cellucor T7 Extreme Stimulant Free Fat Burner and Apex Caffeine FREE Fat Burn. The others made me feel like I was on meth so I didn't keep using them.0 -

I tried them for two months. Didn't drink enough fluids and ended up with kidney stones. Never again.0

Ummm is this a jk? No offence but if its making you sick why would you even take the stuff?0

So it's making you ill, and you're still don't know if you should stop taking it?
That's like having scalding hot water pouring on your hand and wondering whether you should turn the faucet off or not.0 -
No. This has been simple answers to supplement questions.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambooge
A 1998 randomized controlled trial looked at the effects of hydroxycitric acid, the purported active ingredient in gambooge, as a potential antiobesity agent in 135 people. The conclusion from this trial was that "Garcinia cambogia failed to produce significant weight loss and fat mass loss beyond that observed with placebo".[8]0 -
I would.
I love taking things that make me feel like ****...0 -
Don't give a supplement the power. It is YOU achieving the weight loss, not some pill.
This. The credit belongs to you for your diet and exercise, not to the pill. Just stop taking it before it makes you really sick.0 -
Problem is; It makes me feel like $h!t when I'm on it. Like actually ill enough that I sometimes have to lie down for a bit! I don't take the full dose, I take about 2/3, as when I attempted to take the full dose, I couldn't sleep and was really knocked on my @$$!
Doesn't that kind of answer your question?0 -
All Hydroxycut does is stimulate your body to make you "feel" like you have more energy to do tasks, like lift weights or do cardio exercises for example. And, just like any pre-workout supplement, your brain will think you can do more when on this stimulant so it will, from then on, start to release dopamine and make you fell like you "need" this product. Just like when eating sweets your brain will release this chemical into your system. If you keep taking it daily your body will get used to the ingredients and they will have less of an effect on you, from then on you will start to take more for it to work. However, you should stop taking it at that point for about two weeks to a month. Then start again (if you feel the need to take this product). Bodybuilders do this with pre-workout supplements it is called "cycling," so your body doesn't get used to the stimulants in that product.
I do not, myself, take any pre-workouts I just time my meals correctly during the day so that I would have eaten a pretty sizable meal about 1.5-2 hours before my workout so I would have enough energy in the gym or during my run.
Hope this helps.0 -
Problem is; It makes me feel like $h!t when I'm on it.
And you don't think it's a problem? You keep taking it?!!! Really? :noway:0
