Hi everyone, I'm looking into getting some protein powder but there is so many to choose from that I really don't know where to start. I saw one or two I was considering but then on closer inspection, there was more carbs in them than protein. Are there any affordable ones that aren't stupidly high in carbs? Many thanks :)

  • Where abouts are you based? If in the UK then I have just started to use The Protein Works Diet Whey Complex in Banana and really like it.

    A 2 scoop serving provides…
    •207 Calories
•3.4g Fat (of which 1.9 Saturates)
•9.3g Carbs (of which 4g sugars)
    •36.5g Protein

If you go through on this link they will gift you with a free 250g pouch of Protein Powder if you spend over £10 https://www.theproteinworks.com/rewardpoints/index/goReferral/referrer/18322/

I reviewed it on my blog which you can find here - http://katrinacomingclean.wordpress.com/2013/06/12/the-protein-works-diet-whey-complex/

Isn't protein powder just an expensive and lazy way to get protein? You can get chicken breast which will give you 40g of protein at about £2 from the supermarket.

A couple of pints of milk will give you the same. or a can of tuna.

I think you can substitute the word lazy with convenient. I struggle to get a protein rich breakfast when at work so 5 days a week I have a protein shake with my porridge. Chicken or tuna don't really tick my boxes for breakfast and I eat so much chicken and fish the rest of the time. I would have to drink 3 times as much in calorie intake of milk to get the same amount of protein as I would in the shake. This ends up quite a lot when in a cutting stage.

Personally I go into GNC or Holland and Barrett and I buy whatever protein powder they happen to have on offer (there always seems to be a deal on something); whey based, soya based... whatever.
