Interested to know when to eat. Im 5'3, 146lbs. MFP tells me to eat 1200 plus exercise cals.
I always like to workout in a morning but the new gym have the classes i want at night ranging from 6.30 to 8 so sometimes i dont eat til i get home. The 8pm i eat before, but my Q is do you eat your exercise calories during the day ready to burn at night or do you eat later on.
These classes are weight based, advanced kettles and bar work.
My thinking is to eat more during the day and eat maybe a smallish protein meal after workout?

Sounds like a good plan. Plus it is incentive to not skip class or you will be over for the day. Bottom line do what works for you.0 -

Eat enough so that you have sufficient energy to train hard during your workout. There is no rule that says you can only consume food AFTER you have expended the corresponding energy (especially seeing as the process of calorie intake/output is cyclical and continuous). If you do not have enough energy ready, your performance will suffer and you will not be able to get the most out of your training.
Only caveat, obviously, is eating long enough beforehand (or little enough) that you don't feel sick if you push yourself physically.0 -
My Monday zumba is 7.45 and I'd literally keel over if I waited til after then to eat. I upped my calories to 1400 as I was finding 1230 not enough (not randomly, I did look at BMR etc.!) so I am at 1400+ all my exercise calories. On a monday I doa short workout (20 mins) before breakfast, walk to and from work and a walk at lunchtime, and make sure I eat my dinner by 5.30ish (and that its not too heavy).
I then log my zumba exercise calories the NEXT day, as by the time I get home I only want a cup of tea and a small kitkat and it seems a shame to waste them..... Its working for me!!
ETA I never pre-log exercise calories in case I "forget" to do the exercise :blushing:0 -
That is what I do.
I am also doing 1200 + exercise cals, and I do my work out after work at around 7pm.
I prefer to eat more during the day, having a snack around 5pm so that I have enough energy to do my work out. I then have a lighter meal and protein shake after.0 -

I have either 1 or 2 servings of the Holland and Barrett Precision Engineered Whey Protein. They are around 100 cal a serving and for the chocolate this gives you 20g of protein. I mix it just with water which keeps the cal down.
I can't compare it to others as it's the only brand I've bought but I like it and they have some great offers.
Hope that helps0 -
yes thanks! :flowerforyou:0
