Hiit on treadmill! Yes or no?

Hi ya!
I've recently started doing hiit on the treadmill for a minute each on 3.6mph den 6-7mph for half hour!
Will this help I'm intending to do it 4-5 times a week a long side planks/ sit-ups and dead lifts!
I have 18lbs to lose but more importantly losing the gang in my belly.

Sounds similar to mine, but I prefer outside!

I would say go for it! I use HIIT on the elliptical on the days I don't lift, and I find it to be a really awesome workout! Enjoy!!!

Has anyone seen results with this alone? Or is it best to do long runs as well?

what you are doing is not hiit. its intervals. in order for it to be hiit you would need to be going a lot more intense than that.

Yeah HIIT is were you're going full out sprinting for 30-60 seconds (usually 30 seconds for beginners) at a certain incline, followed by 60-120 seconds of rest or slow walk (usually 120 seconds for beginners). After 5-6 occurrences, you should be gassed and done with the HIIT treadmill. If you're going longer than that, you're likely not pushing yourself hard enough.

If you have about 20-30 minutes, listen to this podcast episode on HIIT: http://www.brinkzone.com/general-fitness-info/brinkzone-radio-covers-hiit-training/

    Good luck to you!

This. My HIIT on the elliptical goes for about 12 mins and I can barely stand another 30 secs before the pure exhaustion sets in. I rather do that any day though than train for another 1/2 marathon!
