When does your brain catch up?

I just realized this morning that I need to go shopping...again. My pants are too big...again. lol And this time I'll be buying a size 6.
This is smallest than I've ever been!!
I see other women who are a size six and I think they're beautiful!
And when I look in the mirror CLOTHED, I feel good about how far I've come.
And then I get that dreaded naked walk by the mirror...and all I see is flab...
Will my brain ever catch up and realize that my body is in better shape than ever or am I always going to be striving for more? I've never wanted to be a size zero, so why am I suddenly afraid that I'm not going to be happy until I get there?
I keep thinking maybe my brain will catch up when my stomach is flat (this IS one of my biggest goals) but I also have to recognize that I'm a mom...it's possible that I may never have a flat stomach...does that mean I'm doomed to being unhappy with my body forever?

Let's see so I can give you a good judgement!0

They say that if you do not love yourself before you lose the weight, you still won't once you are at your dream size/weight/shape.
However, we are women, perfectionists, and it is normal to feel like a few spots could be better, a certain area could be firmer...
I think you may be too hard on yourself. The work you have done so far is incredible and paying off.
Did you take before measurements? Before pictures? Look at them. Notice all the positive changes that you have made in your body shape. How your skin is glowing, how you sleep better at night, how your confidence has improved.
The fun thing with the human body is that we are never quite complete or finished. We can always change something, get better, get stronger, become more effective. But that is a double-edged sword. You need to know when are where to draw the line. You need to ask yourself if your goals are realistic.
If having a flat stomach is your ultimate goal, then do it. I am sure you are capable of it, just do not obsess with it too much.
You still have 15 pounds to lose. When those few pounds of fat are gone, you will be even leaner. Toning your stomach will become easier.
Take it one step at a time. You can do it.

I don't know. I do know I wish I had started taking progress pictures sooner - my brain can apparently only process fat in the mirror, but it's perfectly capable of recognizing muscle definition in a picture. And I'm still completely confused by what size I am - right now I am wearing pants somewhere between a size and two too big, but every time I wash them I think, "oh, these are my tight pants" so I put them back in the closet.
I think it settles down eventually, but it takes more patience than it seems like it should.0 -
I started losing weight about 7 years ago, lost about 70, then slowly gained back about 50+, now I'm back down 71#s over about a year and a half. Just recently I stopped grabbing XXLs and size 18 pants first off the rack. I still grab 16s and XLs, even though I'm a 14 and large...and the 14s are getting loose. Yesterday I was walking past the bathroom mirror and caught a glimpse of myself from the side and was like, "Holy crap! My gut has gone down so much!"
It's *kind* of sinking in, but I am not sure what happens from here. Like you, this is the smallest I've been in my adult life, but I've got a ways to still. I still have a hard time accepting that I don't have to shop in the plus sized section.
Have you been to My Body Gallery? When I feel bad about my body, I try to remember to go there. I'm always shocked at how small the women my size are and try to tell myself that even if I don't see it, I must be that size, too.0 -
Punky, I understand fully where you are coming from. Some days I am like "Dang girl..you look good" to other days I see no improvement at all in myself. I think the mind and body will connect at some point. I hope.
