Today at work, someone said...

Today at work someone said "if you turn sideways you would disappear!"

It's clearly not true, as I still have more weight to lose, but it felt pretty good that people are recognizing my results!

How long and/or after how many lbs lost did it take for someone to notice your weight loss? What did they say?

    Congrats! That is AWESOME!

Just last night, a friend of mine whom I've known for almost 20 years said "I don't even recognize you...you're like your own little brother!"

    That was an amazing feeling.

A relative of mine thought I was anorexic after about only losing about 10 pounds.

EDIT: I've lost track of how many McDonald's ads I've seen to. I think it's humorous, actually. I haven't been there in quite some time.

    That's brilliant - well done!

I'm not very far along in my weight loss journey (only 5lbs) but I seem to lose weight off my face first and that's what people normally notice. Unfortunately, that person is normally my mother and I think she says these things just to make me feel better! Oh well, still a lot of pounds left to go :)

Great comment from a coworker OP. Mine have been along with me from the beginning, but we have drug reps that come in about once a month and several of them have started calling me the amazing shrinking person!:glasses: It took most of them about a 50lb loss to notice but lately it has started showing in my face and neck more. I have gotten more comments with the last 15-20 pounds than with the first 40. It's okay though because the first 40 were easier than the last 20:bigsmile: :drinker: !

 Congrats on your success!!! It's kind of funny but I started getting more compliments around 20 pounds off. I think it was because I bought some pants and a few tops that fit me better. I notice that when I wear a top that fits me tighter, I get compliments but when I wear a loose fitting top, not one compliment LOL :noway: For me personally, I needed the new clothes to help my self esteem. From a 20W pants to a 16W at this time. I only buy enough to get me through till my next "noticing you have had a family move out of the seat of those pants" compliment

I think the face is the most noticeable place to lose weight! The weight came off my face first too, and made a huge difference in the way I look at myself. I consider myself lucky that my body kept it's shape even when heavier (just a thicker curvier version) so it's hard to tell when I lose from my body. That's why I was so shocked and felt good when I received that comment today.

Keep up the good work -- but I agree with you, my husband increased the amount of times he would say how pretty I was, but I did not take it to heart since he's my husband... same with your mom. But they are probably right. It's great when people notice your accomplishments, even if it is your mom :)

I started getting the compliments at around 20lbs. It was actually my boss that first asked if I was losing weight. As dark as I am, I think I actually blushed. It felt really good. Now I tend to get the comments as I update fb profile pics or from people that haven't seen me in a couple of months.

On another note, for those of us who were REALLY big, it is interesting because you can lose a good 20-30lbs and while you feel better on the inside, you are so heavy and have been pushing your clothes to the limit, that it doesn't show. Then all of a sudden you start getting to that dropping a pants size every 10-15 lbs place and YOU start really feeling good. Keep up the good work everyone!

Oh, I see him all of the time - we play hockey together and hang out ouside of that as well. I've just always been the heavy one and I've lost 60lbs since September, so I think he was just referring to the relatively quick and drastic change.

I got compliments when I started to get close to my pre-baby weight so around 40lbs, I think before that people were afraid to say anything because I had just had a baby and they didn't want to "insult" me. After that I REALLY started getting compliments after I lost another 20lbs.

Well -- I will tell you that I have never "let myself go" in my life. I am in my 20's and I have ALWAYS watched what I ate, exercised, etc. I was always aware and I have tried so many diets. I even resorted to Slim Fast -- which is not a healthy way to get nutrients (in my opinion). I would only ever lose 5 lbs right at the beginning then it would stop.

So finally I joined MFP and I have been tracking my food everyday. 95% of the time I'm under my calorie goal (which is set at around 1500 but I usually try to get a net of 1200-1300) and I exercise everyday. I started out with just some small things like lunges, crunches, squats, etc. I would do a 15 min work out during my lunch in my office. Then I started adding some walking after work with my doggies. I work for the government, so I have a job where I get to work from home two days a week. So now on the days I work at home, I use my wii Biggest Loser game, wii Zumba, or wii Just Dance 2 games to get a good workout at lunch. I also do this on the weekends. I started with just 20-25 min workouts and lost the most of my weight that way. The past few weeks I have been upping my workouts on my work at home days and on the weekend, to around an hour of dancing zumba and/or just dance. But I have not been losing much weight recently.

I discovered the reason I was not losing weight before MFP was because I was not eating enough most days (with a few days of overeating) so my body was going into starvation mode. Now that I have been working out more, I have been eating a little more, but I completely estimate the calories burned and I think I am underestimating. I'm too scared to eat much more without knowing how much I burned for sure. So I just ordered a heart rate monitor and it's actually being delivered today! That should help more accurately estimate the calories burned and help me get back on the weight loss track :)
