What's so tough about.....

unracking your weights. We have a whole 4 pieces of equipment in our tiny 24/7 gym that use plates, and it seems everyday 3 have plates on. This morning; leg press two 45s, calf raise, 25,10,5, and smith machine...had a 45 on one side.

It has gotten to the point I just put the weight back where I found it. Gym ownership doesn't care, why should I.

this bothers me SO MUCH. It's not that hard to take your 60 pound dumb bell back to it's proper slot instead of butting it in with the 20 pound ones. It's not that hard to rack your 45 pound weight so I don't drop it on myself trying to do it for you. It's COMMON COURTESY.

But their time is obviously more important than yours!

My gym opens at 5am... and it never fails when I get there at that time dumbells will be all over the place. At least a couple of bars will be loaded for deadlifts in the middle of the floor and weights piled up by the squat rack. I complained a couple times to management and when they did not see to care, I will leave things racked with weights.

BUT I will not leave things on the floor that is just not safe for anyone.

it's apparently really tough because that 2 minute rest period between super set change ups is SUPPOSED to be for texting, finding your next song, emailing or visiting....

    truth.

how dare you get upset about their social obligations taking forefront to YOUR safety.....

(for the record I always unrack and put things away after i'm done. Kindergarten and my mom taught me that was the polite thing to do many many years ago)

I kind of just see it as an additional workout.

Whenever weights are left out on the floor at my gym, I'd have the chance to farmers carry them back to the wall, something we don't do a lot of during actual class. ❤

In my old gym, we had to lay down the 100lb mats before sessions started too. That was always a fun workout and I kind of miss it...

I am glad that this happens only occasionally at my gym. It would drive me nuts if it happened with frequency.

this is something that's never bothered me. not even for a second. hell, most of the time i prefer to have a couple plates on there already so i don't have to load them just to warm up. 2 whole 45s on each side of the leg press machine???? my dear heavens, what shall i do? probably put 2 more plates on each side so i can get warm.

even in the rare instance where someone leaves 1000 pounds on the leg press i just unrack them and handle my business. there's so much good in life that i honestly don't have time to get upset by something that takes me 60 seconds to fix. obv, i'm biased because i'm a larger male. if i was a 5'4" 120 pound female unloaded 100's of pounds off the leg press or whatever would be a bigger deal.

Is it a big deal, no? Is it the most basic of gym etiquette, yes.

Oh no's two 45's on the leg press is a pretty bad argument. Is it a lot, no...but do I get to take it off for the ladies that are there in the morning, yes.

    SHOWOFF.

I'm so spoiled. The only person who leaves weights for me to clean up is, well, me. I would be irritated if I paid to go to a gym and had clean up after other people. Buuuut you can always chalk it up to extra reps!

I guess it depends on where you come from. Even when I was a skinny kid starting out, it didn't bother me. I signed up at a hole in the wall joint and leaving plates on the equipment was EXPECTED. Breaking down the leg press to less than 3 plates or not leaving 135 on the bench was considered rude. And this was when I was miles away from benching 135. So to me it's just no big deal if somebody left equipment set up.

Not putting dumbbells back on the rack is a whole different matter tho. I do get annoyed when I can only find one of the DBs I'm looking for because somebody was strong enough to carry it to some godforsaken corner but not strong enough to bring it back.

Ha, I remember last year husband and I went to the gym, and someone had left like, every plate in the joint on whatever piece of equipment I wanted to use (don't remember what it was. I don't think it was the weight bench, may have been the squat machine). I stomped over to husband and was like, can you help me move the plates? Some ****head left them all on. Husband was like, oops, that was me. In all fairness, I think he's usually pretty good about putting them back.

It's one thing if it's set up and I'm going to use it, but most of the time I'm unloading for someone else who can't take the 45's off themselves.

My gym time can be limited, so it can be annoying. More so in the winter when I can really be crunched for time.
