Hi, Low motivation :( No will power

I will be 32 soon , only 5 feet tall ( 152cm I believe) and weight 78 Kg, scales inching towards 80 every day I joined well over a year ago & am still struggling to make any real changes to my life or my weight. I find what I lose I gain back very quickly and sometimes more than I have lost. I am trying to understand how people change their mindset and try and stay healthy? I have very low will power thus my motivation only last a few days! I would love some inspiration or get together with likeminded people help & encourage each other & try and take one day at a time. I joined the Gym again today, but only for 4 weeks as I have wasted so much money before years and years paying but never going there. I want to try things that I know helps me feel better – like yoga. Start there and slowly build up again. Happy for people to befriend me & well really need the help and inspirations tbh. My sister is a fitness freak now, she has lost a lot of weight over the years and have toned down and looks great whereas I have done the exact opposite. My Self esteem is at its lowest, suffering depression and just general self pity hate everything. But I WANT TO CHANGE! For no one by myself, be the happy person I was. Feel good about myself inside. Tried a lot of yoyo dieting as they say, I just want to change my mindset and be healthy. My entire family has diabetes, my mom got it young, around their early 30’s to mid 30’s so did my eldest brother its almost genetic I think. I don’t want it. They are forever telling me to just not be a couch potato but I feel I am just lazy! How do you guys do it?

Hi,
I am new to this also and sometimes lack motivation. What I found is just start slow. I started to walk to the end of my street and back, then extended that distance every couple of days. Give yourself at least 10 mins a day and you will start feeling more motivated. Do you have any dogs? I walk mine but I find at times she holds be back now........LOL0 -
There comes a point in life where you either accept yourself as you are and do things that make you happy, or you look at yourself in the mirror and acknowledge that you don't like the person looking at back at you. For me, it's about accountability. I have 5 kids and a very busy life and when I'm not running around for the kids, I don't want to do anything, and exercise is the last thing on my list. But really, those things are just excuses. I am where I am because of the choices I have made - whether that was to grab a "snack" on my way past McDonald's because it was quick to simply sitting around playing video games in my down time instead of being productive with my own health. When I finally stopped making excuses, my motivation to make changes went up. I'm not starting with this massive goal - I need more immediate results, so I set small goals that I can attain and keep working onward from there. It isn't going to be easy and there are times when you will slip. It's important to get back up and keep trying. Even the little things like switching from regular soda to diet soda, or no soda at all, can make a huge difference. Good luck!0

I know that initially things are slow. Its difficult to get motivated, so I realllly truly understand where you are coming from. I finally said, "ENOUGH OF THIS SHEET" and kicked my own @zz into gear. I sometimes still need to kick myself to get started with exercise so that I don't make excuses like the big one of having no time. I did this tonight and I feel better for getting off of my butt and knowing that I exercised 833 calories (as per my hrm) off of my intake today. I can truly say that I'm proud of my habits now, and that its starting to show! Sooooooo...Kick your own @zz! :bigsmile:0

Start SLOW. When you try to make too many changes at the same time you can get overwhelmed and then quit. You mentioned you joined a gym, do they offer classes? If so, sign up for one. I found that working our in a group is so much better then doing it alone, especially when you are just getting started. Set a goal for yourself, like this week I will walk at least 20 minutes every day. Then build on it the next week. If you are truly ready to change it will happen, but again take smaller steps so they changes stick. Feel free to friend me.0

There comes a point where you realize wanting isn't enough. I wanted to lose weight for years, and I swore I would do anything to achieve it. I joined a gym, promised to workout, swore I'd get it right. But I wasn't willing to give up the obscene portions I was eating. I kept justifying to myself that one more bite wouldn't hurt, one more piece, one more snack, one more meal. I let my work schedule get in the way, I let personal problems get in the way. I would do anything, except eat the way I needed to. Last year, I decided to stop wanting and actually do it. I signed up with a dietician and learned how to eat. I realized that I didn't have to starve myself to be healthy, just eat reasonably. It took me a lot of time to learn that (and I'm still learning). If it's important enough to you, you'll make time for it. I'm working 70 hours a week right now, but I make time to exercise and I make time to cook healthy meals. I don't justify junk because it's easy. I don't sit on the couch with a box of cheez its because I'm too tired to exercise. It takes small steps, but it also takes more than wanting. It takes doing.0

Thanks for all your encouragement. I am using your tips as inspiration.
You all are right trying to change too fast and expect too much too soon has always been my downfall. 15/16 years of weight gain won’t just drop off overnight or even in a few months. I understand it will take a lot of determination but that’s what I have always lacked. So, I will take one day at a time and do a mental WOOOHOOO for each successful day! I have joined gym every other year and waster literally thousands of dollars on the drain as I never went. So this time I only joined for a month. I have never done classes before – ever! I felt self-conscious but I did Body Balance class yesterday. It was low intensity but it was better than nothing. And it wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be! I did sweat! Wow lol :P
LRH65 - My goal this week is simple, go do a gym class every day, find ones I like and be less self-conscious! Next week my goal will be to prepare healthy food, prep everything for the whole week so I don’t come home from work & just binge on whatever is available.
paintlisapurp – I am trying to kick my own *kitten* into gear...I am trying to do less talking, wishing, hoping ,more doing....
grimendale – I KNOW RIGHT! I did those exactly every year! It was routine! Until last year i said no more wasting money

I will try and set small goals, workout every day....prep healthy food over the weekend so I don’t fall off over the weekdays.
Try and use stairs..little things...but all possible and most of all LESS TALKING AND WISHING AND MORE DOING0 -

Sorry..never tried it...but..just wanted to see how you're doing....did you commit yourself to that gym? Im also new here and for me it started with going to a free yoga trial class...
I have done yoga in the distant past and this class reminded me how much I loved yoga and how healing it is for your body and mind...I read you mentioning yoga, hence I wanted to know if you maybe tried it yet...
After that class I started practicing at home...but there is nothing like a group class
So I just recently signed up for a Bikram Hot yoga and WOW...pounds started to drop

Hi PInkLotus, I did commit to the gym but it didn't wok out as well plus I took a break and went on a long holiday and didn't get back to it after that. I did a few yoga classes and really enjoyed them. After your post I looked up BIkram Yoga and I think I will give it a try. I am being cautious now, really making an effort to get moving and watch what I eat not just chow down half a packet of cookies because they are there.
Let's see look ok so far. I am going to just keep trying this month and then hopefully once I see the results be more motivated.
