Office Party/ Luncheons...the dreaded potluck

So I've just come out of my first departmental potluck since really paying attention to my food intake. And I have to say... that SUCKED. My willpower was out the window. Well no, it really wasn't. I ignored the carbalicious overload of breakfast foods. I had fruit, and egg type dishes. But still ate enough calories to fuel my entire day.
I need tips on how to get through these events from those that have been at this and are pros at this point!
I drank 16 ounces of water this morning prior to the breakfast, so I'm sure that helped with volume. I guess it was the types of food that got me the most.
Help!

I usually bring my own packed breakfast (or lunch) to office potlucks. I sit with everyone else to eat, so I still feel like I'm participating, but I don't have to worry about what I'm eating. Of course I get looks and some people ask questions, but I think that's easier to deal with that than the regret that you're feeling now
And when I do splurge, I do extra cardio that day to burn off the calories (and guilt).0 -
I always try to bring something that I will eat to the potluck. That way I know that there is something that I can have that won't be as bad. I never bring treats or bad food, usually fruit or veggies, and go easy on the other stuff. Don't feel like you need to have some of everything.0

Honestly, I just don't eat any of it. I learned a long time ago to stop caring whether or not other people got offended by my lack of participation in these things. It's my body and my health, and I don't owe anyone an explanation for my choices. Hell, I even bake cupcakes and cookies for these people and still don't eat any.0

I would eat my breakfast I normally eat before. Being its potluck I would bring some cut up fruit and then I would sit,,have a piece of fruit and drink my coffee and visit.
We have lunches regularly, and before I saw the light I would order whatever,,pizza, chinese food. Now (since I am the one who orders everything) we eat healthier. I bring in fruit, and order lots of salads in ( grilled chicken) I don't eat wheat and well the office has noticed a major decline in foods coming in with wheat. I am only making everyone healthy too...my attitude is,,,you don't like it? Be my guest at taking over food ordering, paying and picking up.
I quote from my boss * we are promoting health in this office*
Haven't really had alot of grumblings...well ok the one old guy who is at a medical appointment again. His first stress test *showed* something so he has to do it again. He has high BP, boaderline diabetic,,,ya would think he would appreciate not having to *avoid* bad foods for his health.0 -

Exactly what I was going to say.0 -
Take the all or nothing approach.
Either allow yourself to enjoy a teeny bit of everything. Or have none of it, and eat your snack or whatever.
If you take some of it, just know that your day is probably blown so go light at supper, I guess we have potlucks like 3 or 4 times a year so I enjoy them when they have them. and work it off later.0
