I am doing really well in everything but my "sugars"....I add fresh blueberries, 13 grapes & a banana, & it puts my sugars way over...do I not eat fruit??

If I know my sugar is over because of fruits, I don't worry. Fruit sugar is natural, and fruit is healthy so I don't stress about it. I concentrate on letting fruit be my primary sugar source and work on increasing healthy carbs, and PROTEIN!!0
-
I don't really pay attention to sugar from fruit. I actually don't really pay attention to sugar period. I just watch my calories and all other macros and make sure I'm in my range in those areas. Don't stop eating fruit!0
-
Nope! You ignore the sugar column but watch your refined sugars (stuff not from fruit).0
-
Sugar is not a problem unless you are a diabetic.
IN for the ridiculous condemnation of sugar.0 -
I just pay attention to my refined sugars, not the natural ones. I wouldn't sweat it.0

Unless you have a medical reason to monitor your sugar intake, don't worry about it.

don't fret fruit unless they are making your carbs too high.. Refined sugars should be limited or eliminated.0
-
ignore the Sugars stat. I only pay attention to Calories, Protein, and Fiber. And I only track fiber because I don't eat as many fruits and veggies as I probably should.
HOLY WALL OF HYPERLINKS, BATMAN!!!!0 -
sugar is bad,
fruits have sugar,
I shouldn't eat foods that are bad,
therefore, I shouldn't eat fruit?
perhaps the first premise in that argument is incorrect . . .0 -
Just remove sugar from your macros and replace it with Zinc, or something. Problem solved.0

How exactly are these different sugars recognized by the body? Sugars are sugars once they are broken down.0 -

They are metabolized differently. A body can break down natural sugars and turn them into energy easier. Refined sugar is harder to process and uses it as a "last resort" for energy...in other words, it's goes to fat first before being used so if you don't use it...0 -

Haha just pointing out that saying sugar from fruit isn't different than other sugars. The other nutrients from that food may be different. So saying if your sugar comes from fruit it's okay, but other sugars aren't isn't really logical.0 -

Oh I absolutely agree. The only thing that makes the sugar in fruit better than refined sugars is the high fiber content. That means its better, but that doesn't mean that refined sugar is evil... but I love these threads... so carry on...

No, popcorn has carbs and some have sugar.
Here's some bacon

It's not the sugar itself so much as sugar from fruit comes from a whole food source. The vitamins, minerals, and fiber that you get from most fruits outweigh the downsides of consuming the sugar. Conversely, adding refined sugar to most things does nothing, nutritionally speaking, other than add calories.
That said, "added sugar" is typically in the form of granulated/white/table sugar or HFCS, both of which are a refined combination of fructose and glucose. In all consumption of these types of sugars, the glucose is sent straight to the blood stream, while the fructose is sent to the liver for further processing.
In the case of glucose, your body reacts with insulin to either shuttle the glucose to the cells for energy, or dumps it into fat cells for later use. In the case of fructose, the body either converts it to glucose and dumps it into the bloodstream (gluconeogenisis) or converts it to fat (namely, triglycerides) for storage. What either of these do with them depends largely on your glycogen stores.
Fructose is often considered "better," because it doesn't create the same insulin response as glucose. However, it can still contribute to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and elevated serum triglyceride when consumed in large quantities over a period of time.0 -
