losing weigh should be like smoking...

Now, we have probably all seen the commercials of the guy sitting there holding a pack of cigarettes and saying something about putting a picture of his daughter in the sleeve of his pack of cigs to remind him why he needs to stop smoking....So I was thinking, why don't people get pics of themselves at their heaviest and place them around the kitchen / house / office. That way when they reach in the cabinet for those cookies or treats they will see themselves and say "I don't really need this Oreo".

It could work...couldn't it?

The photo doesn't work because they're doing it for their kid...it works because they want to do it, to spend more time with their child, because they don't want to be without the kid because they're dead or half dead, dragging O2 in a cylinder round after them. Whilst they believe they're doing it for somebody else, they're actually doing for themselves and the photo gives them a positive feeling.

Sticking a nasty photo up of yourself just makes you feel bad. And putting yourself in that bad place makes it harder, not easier, to change your behaviour.

If you reverse the thinking by putting a 'goal' photo on these foods with a reminder that eating them doesn't lead to that body I think it would be more effective and more positive. If I looked at a cookie and was reminded that it would not make me any more muscular, fit or thin then I would be less likely to eat it. I find visual reminders to be very effective as long as they do resonate a positive idea.

I think a pic of me fat would not motivate me. I think it would depress me.

A pic of what I want to look like would motivate me.

Especially if it's a pic of a 72 year old lady that looks like I want to look like.

    It could help.

I put progress photos of me in a bathing suit on the fridge. Makes me think twice about drinking an extra beer or two after dinner.

I have pictures of me at my best on my fridge. It really doesn't help, but it doesn't hurt either. I'd much rather see those than me at my worst!

well, before I lost 50 lbs my motivation used to be that when I get into the shower and look down, I wanted to be able to see my penis

Now that I can see the tip, I am losing that motivation.

    I need a new motivation,.

I don't think putting pictures of kids would be good though... and I think federal government wouldn't like that either.

Do you want to see your balls when you look down? That could be your next goal.

I tried it, but you eventually become desensitized. I also put super hot chicks (not necessarily skinny, but all tattoo'd up and looking awesome and smaller then me) that didn't work either.

My friend does this. He is no longer trying to lose weight ,but is working on gaining muscle. So he has pics of guys all over his house to motivate him, as they have the look he wants. He said it was awkward last time his mom came to visit. She saw the one on the fridge (he had took the others down and missed that one). She just looked at the pic for a minute, then looked at him, eyebrows raised, questioningly. LOL

disagree lol, I quit smoking at Easter and it was actually easy. I was a hardcore smoker for 20 years but I took Champix (Chantix in the US) and it was easy, no cravings, habitual smoking wasn't an issue. I simply did not smoke any more one day. worked for my dad, uncle and aunt as well :)

I also disagree. Quit smoking cold turkey New Year's Day and have not looked back. Losing weight is much, much more difficult... for me at least.
