Hi everyone! I am doing my 1st 5k Saturday morning and trying to decide if I should work out tonight. Since I started trying to get healthier (about four weeks now) I have been working out 4-5 times a week for about an hour. Thanks for any advice!

I wouldn't push it. I trained legs the Wednesday before my first 5K. I was sore all day Thursday and part of Friday and wished I hadn't, but I was ok for Saturday. I will definitely be going light next week on legs before my next 5K. A nice walk or some upper body might not be too bad, but you don't want to overdo it or do anything that will leave you sore tomorrow. Perhaps some yoga?0

I think you should as it will lonely help you clear the mind and have a better night sleep to perform even better tomorrow. I suggest you don't push yourself to the point you are sore even a slow jog just to keep that heart rate going. I usually go on a jog or a walk the day before a fun run. Good luck on your 5k and your we journey ahead!0

Since this is your first 5K, I would take today off from any strenuous exercise (running, weightlifting, cycling, etc.) Tomorrow you will be energized and ready to go.
Have fun.0 -
Depends on what you are going to do? "Work out" can mean so many things. If you are talking about dead lifts and squats, I would say no. If you are talking about Yoga, then yes. Just consider the type of activity and the required intensity and make a decision from there.0

If you were to do any kind of workout, I would suggest something very light. Like JenMc14 said, you don't want to over do it and be sore.
I would also say just enjoy the race and don't feel like you have to keep up to speed with the other runners. You will have some that will take off like speed demons, and then you have those that walk the whole thing. It can be a little intimidating . My first race, I went to the back and kept my own speed. I had a fabulous g/f keep at my speed, so it worked for me.
YOU GO GIRL!!!! There is nothing like the feeling of pushing yourself and passing that finish line.0
