Getting Started

Hi Everyone,

I have been a member of MFP for 5+ years, but have not been brave enough to post to the community until now. I am looking for some friends--people who have 50+ lbs to lose, individuals who have been successful in weight loss, people who love to cook at home, and individuals who fight issues caused by thyroid under-activity.

I recently bought a FitBit and am hoping it will aid in my journey toward balance and health in my life.

Cheers,

Lauren

    Hi Lauren.

Ive only joined up yesterday. The young girls @ work are obsessed with losing weight and talk about mfp all the time so I thought Id take a look on the quiet.
I have a lot of weight to lose, and have sucessfully lost approx 28 lbs in the past, then put it all back on.
Budget is the biggest hurdle for me at the moment as our household income is quite low, and I usually end up putting OH's food needs before my own.
So I thought Id bite the bullet and give this a go.
Im trying to focus on eating better and excersising more and will accept any weight lost as a result of this gladly.
Id love to share the journey with you.
    :o)

    Hi Lauren,
It looks like we are at similar weights with a similar goal. I have not loved to cook at home in the past but I am really trying now and learning! I got a Fitbit in May - the combination of the MFP app and the Fitbit makes the journey feel a little bit like a computer game to me :) I have lost weight before and put it back on with extra. This time I have made the decision to be healthier for life rather than dieting. We can do this!

  • Hi Kathi,

I started cooking when I was in graduate school and it carried over into my first two years of work. I mostly cooked at home because I was too poor to eat on the go and I had the time. I was also being good to myself and walking/interval training 3-4 times a week for 30 minute stretches. This was back when I had time and minimal stressors.

Since I've moved to the big city, it seems all of that has changed. I commute like crazy, am constantly stressed (except for now! I'm on vacation from work), and it seems I'm always eating the wrong things, or too much of things that would be fine in moderation. Eating to feed the stress beast comes on too fast.

However, since I've gotten the FitBit, I've been excited to move more. It's a challenge to me. Granted, I need to figure out how to read on my Nook and walk at the same time. That'd be the perfect combination. However, I am contemplating Audible.com to make that happen, too.

I absolutely feel this way, too! I've always been the over-achiever and so I push myself so hard and end up getting discouraged. Life is better when it's light and positive.
