Hi everyone, I`ve been with MFP for a few weeks now and thought it was about time I said hello and told a bit about myself.. I`m 44 and this is the first time I`ve ever been on/ thought of/ even attempted a diet. I was a smoker for 30 years and 4 years ago I lost my Dad through chest problems, a year later in January I decided it was time to give up smoking so gave myself 6 months to come to terms with it, July was my goal date, July arrived and so I joined Stop Smoking Wales, they helped me get through it and to my surprise I found it easier than I thought, that was 3 years ago next month and I have never had a sly cigarette or a sly drag of a cigarette. Overcoming this giant milestone I now feel that I can do anything in life. However.. giving up cigarettes came with a price.. 3 stone in weight in fact, at the start, I didn't mind putting on a few pounds because I have always been tall and slim so it was quite nice to have a bit more flesh on my bones i.e breasts and a bottom, lately though everytime I looked into a mirror, I couldn't see myself, I couldn't recognise ME for all the extra bumps so decided to take action, if I could give up the ciggies I could do anything.. doing exercise has been the hardest but I am gradually building up my fitness and it feels great, MFP has made my journey so much easier and I thank you for that MFP.. I have lost a few pounds in the first few weeks and I feel great, already I`m getting compliments and people have noticed my few pounds lost.

    Hi lillylou,

Firstly I think you've done brilliantly to give up cigarettes and yes, you can reshape your body! It takes time, and commitment, but the results are so worth it. Feel free to add me as a friend if you like. I'm 48, married with two great kids and live in England. I've spent so many years doing a desk-job that involves lots of driving and travel without really caring what food i was eating. Last new year i made my usual promise to lose weight and get healthy, but this time I decided to count calories, and that's where I found MFP. it really has made a difference to me, mainly because it's now so easy to track my foods and progress. I've found the MFP community to be a really positive and supportive place.
