Ok so this prob isn't the right category but I had no idea where to place this....
Have any of you WOMEN noticed your cycles are irregular since beginning your weight loss journey? I have PCOS so am used to 1) that affecting my weight loss in terms of it being slower/harder and 2) not having normal cycles...as in maybe 3-4 a year. However, I started again today and that makes cycle number 2 (maybe 3) for this month. **I say 3 cause I quit and then 3 days later had light bleeding for about 3 days...not sure if it was separate or related to the first cycle** Anyways.....I'm only asking cause I dnt know if it's related to weight loss/dieting/exercise or if a PCOS flare-up and needs medical attention.
Also, how in the heck am I supposed to weigh accurately if this is happening? I mean, you weigh more (water weight) 1-2 days before you start, then the whole time your going and then 1-2 days after. Thats a good weekish u cnt weigh....according to that the week I;ve not bled this month would still hold water weight and be inaccurate from the cycle before and the next upcoming. So how in the heck do I know when to weigh and if it is accurate???

Last month I started dieting(on the 12th). My cycle came at the appropriate time. I do know once a year my body likes to switch its dates around on me, but for the most part I have a pretty regular cycle for about 9-12 months.
We'll see in a week or so.... I weigh on the 17th, and Aunt Flow comes at the beginning of the month (last time it was on the 3rd).
If yours is that irregular though, I am not sure when the appropriate time to weigh is. Sometimes a cycle can make you weigh 6 more lbs than normal!0 -
I wouldn't worry so much about what the scale actually says and go more by what the tape measure and the fit of your clothes says. I might also weigh more frequently and just look for a general downward trend - like if you average the weights from "this month" and compare to the average from "last month", the number is the same or lower. If you're "technical", you could also log daily weights in a spread sheet and graph - the trend should be generally downward, with "periodic" upward peaks. If your "periods" are more abnormal than usual, you might want to see your doctor to make sure there isn't something more going on than just the PCOS.0

I would say who cares what the scale says, but we all care. That being said, just be aware that if you are doing all the right things, tracking/weighing everything, working out 5+ times a week, then you're doing good. If the scale goes up, it's temporary.
Keep in mind that our fat cells store an abundance of hormones, and when we lose fat, our hormones are dumped into our bodies at increased levels, and it can fluctuation cycles and weight.0 -
I'm having a few problems with it. The pill that i'm on stopped my periods and I would only get a really light one every 4-6 months that lasted a few days.
However, since I've started losing weight I've had a heavy period that's been going on for over 2 weeks now and showing no signs of it going away. This is very frustrating. I have no idea if this is linked to my weight loss or not but i'm considering going to my doctor about it.
Has anyone else experienced this?0 -

Do you know if you might be low in iron? Iron deficiency can cause stronger periods. You should get your blood work checked out. Dieting (if not done super carefully) can easy result in a vitamin or mineral deficiency.0 -
My only advice would be to do as someone already mentioned. Keep weighing, but look for longer term patterns rather then weekly ones. Look at your averages for the month and then compare it to last month to see if you are staying about the same or losing or whatever....even if you have a lot of water retention, if you average out a whole month rather then weekly you are more likely to see if there is a difference or not.0

I do eat foods quite high in iron but i'm obviously eating less now so you may be right, Thanks for the advice!0 -
Yea I've noticed my periods become irregular particularly since April when i started doing the shred and weighing my food much more closely, i've lost the last 10lbs and im at my desired weight now however they havent come back to normal, wondering should i be concerned with this or does it just take time, im at the nervous stage where i probably need to start upping my calories to maintenance but i dont want to put it back on0
