gaining weight w/ under 1500 calories a day???

I tore my acl and pcl a few months ago and cant really work out at all. so i decided to control my weight through diet alone and reduced my calories to 1200-1500 a day. I was 192 a week ago down from 210 in march. this past week i have steadily gained weight despite not changing my routine, and now i'm back up to 199! :-( I don't know what else i can do! Help!

  • I don't know how tall you are, etc. ... so I can't say how many calories you should eat. But I exercise 5 days per week and gain weight on 1500 calories. I have to stay below about 1400 to maintain ... and a little under that to lose. So you may need to drop your calories a bit lower.

Second ... there are plenty of exercises for people who can't walk ... seated exercises for people who use wheel chairs, etc. Some of those wheelchair atheletes are really buff and in great shape. You could use them as a guide and still get your exercise.

When I started journey to health and fitness, I lost 40 pounds in the first year. Then I broke my ankle and used that as an "excuse" to not exercise for 2 months. Then I found it hard to get back on track with excersing regularly. In the end, I gained back 20 pounds because of that incident.

Don't make the same mistake I did. Get back to exercising NOW! Do some research on the exercise routines for people in wheelchairs and other types of seated exercises. Use them to develop upper body strength and burn calories.

It's impossible to gain 7 pounds of fat in 7 days based on a 1500 calorie intake. Are you eating an excessive amount of sodium, drinking water? On meds that may make you retain water?
