Tight/Sore Abs After Running, Any suggestions?

I have been running (doing the couch to 5k program) for about 6 weeks, I just switched over to a different running program that requires longer runs but continues to incorporate much needed short walking breaks. Today after my run I felt like I had done 500 sit ups (my abs were so tight it was hard to breath and sitting on the couch is uncomfortable). I realize this probably means I need to work on my core. What exercises do you recommend (number, frequency). Any help you can suggest I greatly appreciate, I am in agony and don't want to keep feeling this way after a run (BTW I felt wonderful while I was running it was after I started to feel very uncomfortable). Also any stretches to help with this before and after a run. Thank you for your help!!

I've started doing scoobys 3 minute ab workout after my workouts and have really noticed a difference.

BTW, you`re not alone; when I started going longer my abs complained too.
A little OT but check Runners World`s website for hip & glute exercises too.0 -

Thanks for this. My daughter and I went for a short run and she asked me about what muscles you use when you run and I didn't have a specific answer. This helps.0
