Hey all, I know this question has probably been asked but I can't find it when searching. I always see people saying not to consume too little kcals. Fitbit has given me approx 1400kcals today on top of my daily 1200. Do I need to be resetting my daily allowance or is 1200 ok? Some help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure I understand. You have MFP set to 1200? Fitbit is telling you to eat 1400, or 1400 PLUS the 1200? How many calories have you burned?0
-
I have a fitbit but don't use it for my calorie counter. Only for steps. I use MFP for my calorie input. In away I think my fitbit is useless!!0

Fitbit is not useless. It's a MUCH better indicator of your true TDEE than any online calculator.
OP, do I have you as a friend on Fitbit? It would be easier for me to look at your profile and see what you've done so that I can tell. If you have been really active today, and burned a lot, it is entirely possible that you have your MFP calories set too low, and should consume more than you are.

I have mfp set to 1200 and I hand burned an additional 1400 according to fitbit.0 -

Not sure what "quite a lot" is but that could be correct, definitely.0 -

Fitbit says 8 miles, I do a lot if walking everyday as We live quote far from my children's school0 -
go with MFP. Your fitbit also gives you the calories you burn when sleeping. It's saying you've burned 1400 cals today just by living. I only use my fitbit for activities. Then adjust them on MFP0

I have myself set at 1200 as well. When you exercise, you are burning calories, which is why your calorie allowance goes up. So, yes, it is the 1200+ whatever you've burned that keeps adding up. I try not to consume more than 1200 on a "light" day, but as your intensity increases, you should try to increase your calories- just don't overdo it!! I hope this helps0

I was just looking at your fitbit profile and was going to ask if the 8 miles was correct. I would eat at least half of those back. Is it typical for you to be this active? I'd give it a week, and see what Fitbit calculates as your average daily calorie burn, then use that as your TDEE and subtract your deficit (250-2000) from there, depending on how much you are wanting to lose. (If you change MFP to your TDEE number, you don't eat exercise calories back anymore, you eat about the same amount every day).0

I love my Fitbit! It keeps me motivated and lets me know if I'm not doing enough in a day. It's all in how you approach it. Join a couple of the message boards. There are some nice people on there who are willing to help you get through the rough patches and they are fun to talk to. I think you should keep trying! You need to have at least 10,000 steps a day. There are days when I get that much and more. Don't give up. It will be worth it in the long run. After all, you must have had a reason to buy the Fitbit in the first place, right?0

I'm not usually this active no, I do 4 miles a day at the gym but don't usually do as much walking after.i have just been very busy today. I just wanted to ensure I am eating the right amount if kcals to loose weight, I only have 4lbs to go but it won't budge0 -
I probably should have said set a goal of 10,000 steps a day and strive to make the goal. Sorry I phrased that incorrectly. 10,000 averages to about 5 miles. Depends on the size of your stride.0
