MFP exercise tracker/ elliptical question

So does the MFP tracker go by your weight and height to determine how much calories where burned on a machine, etc.?
for example it says I burned 70 calories for 5 minutes of the elliptical? does that sound right?

this was my first time one an elliptical and is it weird that it didn't feel right working out on it? my legs didn't fully extend and I felt like I was clunky on it?

Also, do you think you get a better work out walking on the treadmill vs. the elliptical?

Sorry, I am a Noob on this stuff!

It depends on the person and the workout. MFP doesn't know how intense your time on the elliptical was. For me the MFP estimates were higher than the estimates on my elliptical, which was higher than the estimates on my pedometer. So I did a couple of workouts with my heart rate monitor and found that the numbers from my pedometer were the most accurate (darn).

Unless you were really really working hard, that number sounds a bit high. I work pretty hard and burn about 10 cals a minute, roughly.
I like the elliptical on days I don't walk outside. My gym has three different kinds...sometimes you have to try different machines to find one that fits your stride well. It does feel a little clunky til you get used to it, but you can get a good workout, and it is easier on your joints, if that's an issue for you. My knees like the elliptical much better than the treadmill..although I enjoy the treadmill too.
Don't worry about being a noob....everyone was one once!

There is research that says elliptical machines overestimate calories burned by 30%.
