I always start out going strong... movin and groovin... eating better... tracking everything... and then I feel like something always happens or i get burned out... i HATE this yo yo stuff. Why can't I keep my mind focused and stay determined.. I can't stand looking and feeling like this so why does my motivation and drive take a hike? I am so frustrated with myself. I'm letting myself down... I want to find the real me... but I am standing in my own way... any tips or helpful advice?!?

OMG THIS IS SOOOOOOOO ME!!! I hate it. I was doing really well on here. A couple months ago I was going hard. Eating great, logging everything, gym you name it! Then out of nowhere I come to a complete STOP. I gained the 15 lbs back that I lost and my motivation is mia. I get so depressed. IDK why I always do this to myself to. Now I have to start over from square one again. IT SUCKS! I know exactly how you feel girl.0

It's not smart to rely on motivation. Motivation can get you started but it will get you nowhere. You need discipline. Use that motivation to get things going and then just do them. You don't have to want to do them, you just do them cos you have to. Like you go to work every day, you might not want to and want to sleep for longer but you go anyways. Because you have self discipline and you want money and good life. Same for body, you want good body? It's a work, not something what you need to, not "want" to do...
I figured out that a while ago. I was waiting and looking for motivation and that did get me nowhere either. Lost fat, lost motivation, gained it all back. Threat your right eating and workouts as work. And you do it for a payment. And just like work, if you keep doing it for long enough it become automatic, you don't have to try that much anymore.0 -
I really liked this post about motivation. It nailed it for me.

If you really buy into the fact that it is a change in lifestyle and not a "diet", motivation need not enter into it except as someone said above, you need that initial motivation in order to actually change your lifestyle. After that, it's just a matter of living your life everyday in your new lifestyle. This is how it will be for the rest of your life. Eat well most of the time. Eat enough and don't let yourself starve. Have treats that fit into your new lifestyle and try to move more. If you eat at a deficit, you will lose.
It won't happen overnight. And you will love the results.0 -
What Ainar said...
Plus, I know for me, in the past, when I would have a couple days of not doing well they would snowball into three, four, and more days and before I know it I'm back to my old ways and all the good is forgotten about.
The trick I have learned is to slap myself out of it before it becomes three days. I have learned to force myself to do something, anything on that first or second day of bad. Go for a walk, run, bike ride anything. It's amazing if you get those muscles going again how they will miraculously bring some of that motivation back. Just MOVE, MOVE, MOVE!!
Good luck to the both of you and anyone else experiencing this inevitable dilemma. Even though it's not luck you need. It's discipline.
Cheers!0
