Peanut Butter

What do you think the best kind of peanut butter out there is? I am a peanut butter lover and currently in my closet I have regular creamy, JIF natural crunchy, and PB2.

The natural crunchy is my favorite taste wise, but PB2 is so low on calories! I usually have peanut butter a few times a week and make sure to fit it into my calorie goal for the day.

Any thoughts on these three options? Or other butters? Such as almond. I'm trying to get a good grasp on the peanut butter world.

I'm a Creamy Jiff kinda gal - I know it's full of sugars and stuff, but I just can't seem to get it in my head to care. :)

I buy the Jif natural to go packs and stick those in my lunch box. Feels like a treat to me..love it!
  • I'm too cheap to pay for other butters but sunflower, almond and cashew are all yummy.
I love the Smart Balance chunky. It tastes amazing and has omegas added for a bonus.
PB2 is great in shakes and smoothies, but not really worth it (imo) as a spread.
  • I enjoy Skippy natural. The regular stuff has hydrogenated oils in it...BLAH!

  • I love the Skippy Natural . It tastes like rgular without so much sugar!
  • I've been in a Peter Pan Honey Roast Crunchy phase for a while now. Love the crunchy to eat right out of the jar!

Buy some peanuts and other nuts and make your own blend. Vitamix blender does this in a snap, but you can do it in a food processor too. Best ever.
  • I am a kraft smooth fan, I enjoy it with rasins and celery, I think it is called ants on a log from my days at the camp grounds.

as long as it is in your calorie goal don't worry about, go for what you like. I eat it a few times a week and it has not affected my weight loss. I agree with one poster about pb2, it works great in smoothies but totally bites as a spread.

Earth Balance Peanut Butter is amazing. If you like coconut, the PB with coconut oil is delicious. PB is so high in calorie though I eat it only on the days I walk 7-10 miles and weigh out 2 tbs.

I love Jif natural with a touch of honey. Yum! If I can't find that then Jif natural creamy is tasty too. :)

And no one can tell me otherwise.

I'd stick with the one that has the least/no added ingredients.
And I agree with oldandslower, should worry too much as long as it stays within your macros :)

I love Smuckers All Natural and Organic, Kirkland's All Natural, and if I want a treat, I LOVE PB Crave's Cookie Nookie. LOL Oh, and PB&CO's Maple is really good, too.
  • Thanks for all the input everyone :)

I was slightly worried about the fat content and what not, but it always fits in to my day so I guess I don't need to feel to guilty! Can't wait to try some of you guys suggestions :)

LOVE Ants On A Log! It was my mom's go-to snack for us kids when I was growing up. I've never met another person outside my family who even knows what it is! My husband can't fathom why I like it  but to this day if I need a sweet snack that's my first stop. mmmmmmm

The Kirkland's all natural is surprisingly good, although I avoid the super processed ones like Jif unless it's going on a hamburger.

I prefer getting to the store and using the grinder to get fresh peanut butter, that way you know exactly what's in it. PB2 is kick *kitten* as well, have soe in the freezer and add it to my protein shakes.

A health food store in town will grind toasted peanuts right in front of you for mega-fresh PB. Nom, nom, nom!

(They also let you "cycle for your own smoothie" where they have a stationary bike hooked up to a generator to a blender and your cycling makes the blender go! It's a cute gimmick)

I would try to go as natural as you can, eliminating any with trans fats/hydrogenated oil. Peanuts are actually a lentil. I still eat peanut butter but I have been trying almond butter more now. Still tinkering with making my own nut butters to save some money, adding cinnamon or raw cocoa powder.

Does not matter except that it has to be creamy. Only weirdos eat crunchy. Creamy rocks!

Peter Pan 100% Natural Crunchy and Peanut Butter & Co Crunch Time. I like PB2 chocolate blended in with my post-workout shake

I think the best kind is whichever one has the most ingredients, and preferably has the word "hydrogenated" on the label somewhere.

I think any of the full fat ones are fine as long as you don't overeat them.

The "reduced fat" ones are full of crap - I got a Sainsburys reduced fat one and it tasted like peanut butter flavour icing sugar - yuck.

I have the whole earth crunchy variety in my drawer at work, perfect spread on Ryvita for a pre workout snack :)

Almond, hazelnut and cashew are the others that I have tried and they are ALL delicious. I love nut butter!
