Low carb diet for sugar elimination

I am seriously addicted to sugar, and I'm a binge eater and binge on sugary junk or carb laden foods. Diabetes runs in the family and I really don't want to have it. I feel like sugar controls me. Has anyone started on atkins/paleo and notices sugar cravings went away?

I've used South Beach and gotten good results. It lets you determine which carbs are your trigger to overeating. I've been seriously thinking of going back on it again.0

I'm on a lower carb, high protein diet and have cut out all gluten. The less sugar I eat, I generally notice that within a week or two, my cravings substantially decline. I have found by eating fruit I can almost always curb the sugar craving. If I'm really desperate, I eat raisins. I also add 1 tbsp. of non sweetened cocoa to my morning protein smoothie...low sugar, but tricks my brain into thinking I'm getting some chocolatey goodness.0

I've been trying to eat "clean", meaning no processed junk.....meaning no chips, crackers, cookies, etc, I have been avoiding carbs good or bad. I do allow myself something if I want it over the weekend. I feel great and am not hungry when I eat more fat/protein meals. Good luck!! And yes I think a lot of people have issues with sugar. I believe it is the sensation it gives your brain. I try to steer clear of sugar because I tend to spiral out of control with it, generally speaking instead of having 1 cookie I have 3.0

YES!!!!!!!!! I had the SAME issues... I went Paleo and it all went away.. I couldn't believe it! The main trick is staying away from sweeteners which creep up on you and make you crave sugar later anyway- and stick to natural sugars like fruit! Also need to eat frequently throughout the day to keep your sugar levels in line or you will definitely fall off...eating breakfast is a hands down MUST. (I generally do Merrikhs Paloe Protein powder for breakfast with frozen acai and almond vanilla milk or egg whites and veggies if I have time to cook)

If you really are a *carb addict*, you may have less suffering if you focus on increasing your fiber. You'll stay full longer (unlike high carb) and you can think your way through the transition. Stock up on raw veggies and stuff like that. Staying on a lower-carb, higher protein diet is more sustainable than Adkins, IMHO. Off the diet/on the diet makes for a bad roller coaster ride. Good luck, Sweetie!0

I was/kinda still am doing South Beach. The cravings have gone away, but I allow myself one treat each week, whether its alcohol, cheesecake, snocone, chocolate, whatever. But once I have it, Im good for a while.0

YES!!!
i am on day 33 of Atkins induction, and my sugar cravings have gone away.
Also gone are the shaky panic i-need-to-eat-something-or-i-am-going-to-seriously-freak-out-right-NOW! fits from hypoglycemia.
I have also noticed positive changes in my mood.

yes, I've had good results taking the "paleo" approach. I mostly just eat whole foods (meat, veggies, sometimes whole grains) and no processed foods. Once the processed foods are out of my diet for about a week then the cravings start to go down. If I slip though and just have one thing, my cravings sky rocket again.0

I have eaten low carb for years, sometimes successfully other times not so. The key is to read the ingredients!. Sugar carbs are clearly marked, but other carbs are as well. Vegetables are carbs, some are good some contain loads of natural sugars and starches, which will process as sugar. The bieggest culprits are low fat processed foods. Manufacturers cram in sugar etc to make up for the taste lost when removing fats.
I used Atkins to get off the sugar and to get past the carb cravings. You can be that extreme if you want, or you can try eliminating certain carbs a bit at a time. I couldn't do it that way. I needed to do it all or nothing. 20 grams of carbs is not hard to achieve if you are eating meats, poultry, fish and vegetables.0 -
I have been on atkins for 2 months and have lost 25 pounds. It has not been easy, but after a while, I lost the strong craving for sugar. I do have my moments though and I eat sugar free jello to satisfy my sweet tooth.
My whole family is over weight and most of them have diabetes. I don't, so I am trying to do my best to lose weight, so that I do not get it.
I wish you much luck with your weight loss goals.0 -

South Beach and Atkins are elimination plans where you eliminate everything for the first 2 weeks except for fats, proteins and carbs from green leafy vegetables.......
From there you should slowly re-introduce carbs one by one to see what your trigger foods are. They will be different for each person......
Paleo doesn't have that restriction factor and some people I know (including a couple of family members) have used fruit to continue that sugar addiction.0
