new Taco bell protein heavy menu

Taco Bell has never been the healthiest fast food option but it seems the chain is trying to turn things around. The chain is set to debut a new menu called “Power Protein” that will be aimed at their most enthusiastic demographic: young men.
Summer is a time when many people try to achieve and maintain their beach bodies, and a high-protein low carb diet combined with frequent exercise has proven to provide beneficial results. Creating gym-friendly fast food could see the creation of a new customer base for the brand
Even though the menu will be packed with protein, it doesn’t actually make use of any new ingredients. The burritos and bowls will have the option for double portions of chicken or steak, as well as toppings such as corn, guacamole or reduced fat sour cream.
The burritos and bowls have more than 20 grams of protein and less than 450 calories; they cost between $3.59 and $5.19 depending on whether they feature steak or chicken.
Taco Bell plans to start their tests from July 25 at about 40 locations in Dayton, Ohio.

I would still be concerned about the quality or the ingredients. Still using GMO veggies, factory farmed livestock, and processed seed oils. When I do eat fast food though I do sometimes still get the Cantina bowl. Basically a rip-off of Chipotle burritos and bowls but 1-2 dollars cheaper.0

I think their chicken is gross or I might eat their more often. Of course many people probably think all of their food is gross. The only thing I get from there anymore is a regular supreme taco since the rest are too carb heavy. I thought them adding guac to the menu would be great but that is gross too.0

Having more food options sounds good to me.0

While I applaud them for attempting at better menu items. 20 grams of protein and 450 calories is not a good ratio for "power protein". With 20 grams of protein, that means only 80 calories (18%) come from protein, what about the other 82% of the calories?
One scoop of protein powder can average 125 calories and 21-24 grams of protein and most average $0.80/serving, seems as though there are still some better options when I can whip up a protein shake just as quickly as going through a drive-thru.0 -
450 calories and 20 grams of protein, as mentioned before, is crap.
Now 40 in 500, and we'll talk.
Until then, I'll be at Chipotle, having my 98 protein burrito.0 -
The Burger King double whopper no cheese has 42 grams for 650 calories. Cut it in half and it's 21 for 325 calories. Or the McDouble for 23 grams at 390. Wendy's double stack is 27 grams at 420 calories, or 400 if you leave off the mayo and still 27 grams.
If you're going to eat fast food, I recommend burgers.0 -

but when it all boils down to it, you can MAKE them make it how you want it, it's just a little more of a hassle. The raw ingredients are there and are decent. There's nothing to really feel bad about while chosing whole tomatoes and onions, beans (GMO or otherwise), and even processed lean meats. You can make a decent meal from taco bell.0 -

dry (or with mustard) double meat grilled chicken sandwiches are always a good choice for high protein eating at burger joints.0 -
This is some of the best news I've ever heard. I love Taco Bell like you wouldn't believe, but my main complaint has been that the dishes don't have enough protein.0

I like taco Bell, they have a lot of good, cheap options at a lot of different calorie counts. I share other posters concerns about quality of meat/treatment of animals, but I generally don't worry about it for an occasional meal out. Boycotting the bad stuff has very little effect. Supporting the good stuff with your money does. So I support local farms, humane meats at Whole Foods, etc, and hope those movements grow. Now I want a taco.0

The Taco Bell diet has always been an effective one--eat a pound worth of food and somehow end up pooping out two pounds less than 15 minutes later.0
