Under the Dome

All right peoples, I know I wasn't the only one out there that saw it last night....

I gotta rant....

WTF was with Barbie burying a dead body at the beginning of the show? I mean, okay, so it makes the reporter single so he can get with her later, but wouldn't that be kinda freaky? You are in bed with the woman whose husband you killed....

Secondly, why did they put Junior with Angie? I know he had a literal hard on for her in the book, but jeez, you gonna have him screwing her, and then he flips out and drops her in the fall out shelter... I know she is eye candy, but come on, you already got one dead body, why not put another one in the fall out shelter, especially considering the body count should add up...

Third, I thought the radio station was a Gospel station... Phil was all "holy roller" in the book, rollin all that meth that is, but a rock station doesn't fit, especially if it is on the church property.....

Sooooooooooooooo, what did every body else think?

didn't know there was a book and I did not get the whole bury body scene at the beginning either. I figure I will find out what is up with that later? I think he did make a phone call to someone or so and said something about a deal going bad and the guy trying to renegotiate...so maybe that was the result of that...IDK if i like this show yet...it's kinda hokey so far. I will give it a couple more episodes though to see.

It's been a while since I've read the book but these are my thoughts so far....I thought it was a bit weird that Barbie was burying a body at the beginning. I wonder if they are going to go the way of The Walking Dead and completely depart from the original story line.

For Junior I think maybe they are trying to give him that psycho vibe but keeping it PG considering this show is on network TV not cable.

You're absolutely right about it being a gospel station. I'll be interested to see how that part of the story plays out.

I think I'm still going to reserve judgment on the show until we get into it a little bit more. I think the effects were pretty good...I especially liked the cow getting sliced in half. Much more exciting that seeing a woodchuck.

I've decided to think of this show as "inspired by" the book, so that I won't keep getting tripped up on all the changes. IMHO, it's the only way to enjoy any movies or TV based on SK's work......otherwise I spin myself in pedantic circles, getting madder and madder that they're "ruining" it LOL

I really enjoyed it, and can't wait to watch more.

I also think it's awesome (SPOILERS)

the juxtaposition between the role of Hank in Breaking Bad and Big Jim as this town's own version of Heisenberg.....

I've been thinking about reading the book, but not sure if I should read the book then get caught up on the show or read and watch at the same time. Or not read at all because isn't the book like 1,000 pages? Is it really good?

The book is great, once you get into it... I am a lifelong SK fan, and had to restart it twice to get into it. The way it appears they are using "poetic license" with it, you may get confused if you were trying to read along with the tv show. Watch the show, and then read the book, and see how much better the book is (as usual).

Barbie doens't seem old enough for the character

I love how the radio station is now next door to Andrea Grinnell's house?!?!

Stephen King worked with the show and was excited to do it. It's an adaptation of the book.....so some things will be different. He said as we get to know the characters, their dirty little secrets will be revealed and how they all interact. Lots of twists and turns. King also said if it's a hit, they will do a season two. I thought it was groovy!

thoughts on the cause of the dome...

man made: thats just not Stephen Kingy enough. so not made by any goverment or ogranization however...(see blow)*
alien: possible but a little too played out (experiment on humans etc..)
demon/ghost etc..: seems to technological for that.

*i dont think its man made in the sense of some government or organization that we are familiar with making it(DARPA for example) but i do think it may be caused by man in the future. like in the year 2278 scientists are trying to create a sustainable artificial black hole and their containment mechanism(The Dome) get sent back in time.

I want to read the book. Would you suggest I do so before I watch the show, or does it not matter too much?

Yes, absolutely... read first. In my opinion. They've changed the story alot for tv. It's a good read.

I'm a huge SK fan but I didn't love how the book played out.
I haven't watched the show yet, I'm a little hestitant to because it is never as good as the book, particularly in King's case.
  • im hoping to see this over the weekend! ^_^

That book has so much drama I'm not sure why they feel the need to add some. . . some stories don't need hollywood fluff!
