Hi Everyone,
I 'joined' the site a month ago, but didn't do anything with it. Yesterday I spent a lot of time browsing the message boards and getting addicted to this site. I sure hope it can help me.
I have a 2 1/2 year old and an 8 month old. I am hoping to find some other mommies of babies/tods to do this along with me. I have about 20 pounds that I need to lose. I started exercising a month ago, 4-5 times a week, and pretty rigorous workouts. But I have gained 2 pounds since I started.
I'm also still breastfeeding my 8 month old, so my body is hoarding every calorie I put into it.
Looking forward to meeting some Mommy buddies who we can journey along with.

Welcome! I'm also a mom, I have 3. Mine are almost 5, 3, and 8 months. I'm also breastfeeding! As long as you eat enough calories, and drink enough water, your supply will not be affected. I'm a bit different from you, though. I have around 90 lbs to lose, so this is a long journey for me! But I'd be more than happy to be your friend!0

Hey, Mama! Congratulations on your 2nd baby! :flowerforyou:
I also have a 2.5 year old and he sure is keeping me on my toes! I also had a second baby recently and I am currently breastfeeding him (he's 6 month old...where has my little baby gone!!!) and I finally joined MFP in late April when the weight just wasn't coming off. When I started, I didn't know how to log breastfeeding so I wanted to share my knowledge incase you need it. When I started, I went into my exercise tab and put in 141 minutes of breastfeeding (burning 400 cals) in the cardio section. It then gave me those extra 400 cals for my food log. Or, you can also log your BF cals by going into your food log directly (not going into the exercise tab). To do that, you just enter "Breastfeeding" in the food search and it'll pop up. You then select the ounces (if I'm remembering correctly) and once you hit enter, it'll show up as a calorie deficit on your food log. I prefer to log mine in the exercise log, though. Either one will work.
If you're breastfeeding, you burn anywhere from 300 to 600 calories a day (which you probably know already!). Every ounce of breastmilk you make/expel burns 20 calories so if you know how much you're producing, you'll know how many cals to add to your diet. Everyone is different so this is just a rough estimate. If I feel hungry, I'll eat more as long as it's a smart choice. I was doing great on around 1600 cals per day & I'm 5' 4.5" and currently 115 lbs. Everyone is different but this should give you some idea. You will probably want to try something like this and see if it works for you. The most important thing is to keep that milk flowing for your little one.
You'll find this site is TONS of FUN and people give you amazing support! Seriously, it's absolute MAGIC as long as you are honest with yourself, log everything and stay in the correct calorie zone that works for you. Again, you'll probably have to play around to see what works best. Don't get too frustrated if you don't lose every week because there were times with me that I would lose every other week but the weightloss was significant enough to cover both weeks. Be careful to eat enough cals otherwise you'll screw up your metab and stop losing. Please read the following links/threads which have invaluable info. I wish I had read these sooner!

I hope this helps, Mama! Congrats again! Enjoy those two little ones!!0 -
Hi, Thanks for the reply! I'm excited about doing this on here.0

Hi Jen,
Thanks so much for the info! And yes, logging the breastfeeding calories was really confusing me and I was just adding 500 calories to my list in my head, which was boggling sometimes.I am going to adjust it that way, thanks!!!!
Thanks for the links too. I will spend some time looking through them. I breastfed my first child for a year and I remember after weaning her, I lost about 10 pounds, but by then I was already pregnant again, so it may have been due to 1st trimester sickies. I am hoping that when I stop in December I'll be able to lose some pounds that my body is holding onto right now though.
Congrats on meeting your goal!!How long did it take you? I am 5' 5" and right now roughly 145 pounds. My best weight is about 125, so I really want to lose 20 pounds. Right now MFP is telling me 1280 calories, but I still have to add in the breastfeeding calories, so it is probably close to 1700, which sounds right, compared to you.
Also, congrats on your 6 month old!
