Weight Lifting Newbie – Help with plan

Hi Everyone.
I just recently joined a gym and I want to start lifting weights, but I have no routine set up and I really don’t know what to do. Can anyone recommend good websites that will help me put together a plan? I am just doing random machines and free weights right now, which is great, but I would like to know what muscles I am working, what I should be working, etc.
Any information you have would be great! Even previous forum posts. Thanks!

www.exrx.net. When I was in my lifting routine that's what I used exclusively for YEARS.
The link below is directly to workout templates. You pick the template (descriptions of how to use it are on the right). Then it jumps to the body parts. Pick a body part and it gives you a list of exercises, how to do them, etc.

I would suggest a program like Starting Strength or StrongLifts 5x5. I'm currently doing SL 5x5 and really like it. Avoid the machines and focus on compound movements with free weights.0

You can't get more newbie than me. I'm doing stronglifts 5x5. I like it. There's also a group here for women doing stronglifts where there's a wonderful sticky that breaks down the 200 page PDF info 2 paragraphs of normal English.0

Also would recomment Stronglifts 5x5 or Starting Strength. I'm currently reading through the Starting Strength book, which is an awesome resource. It reads almost like a textbook and goes into a lot of detail about technique, with very useful sections on common problems and how to fix them. Stronglifts is a little lighter on the technical details. Both have videos to watch on youtube that describe form too.
A lot of women on here also recommend New Rules of Lifting for Women, but I don't have any experience with it. It's a slightly more complicated workout routine than Stronglifts or Starting Strength.0 -
