I'm ALWAYS cold :(

I know that being more sensitive to the cold comes with weight loss but I'm freezing all the time... Even if it's 81 in my house the moment the air kicks on and starts blowing on me I'm cold again... I wear sweatshirts if I'm just sitting on the couch... At work I am freezing... I live in Arizona where it's going to be 105 today and I'm wearing a long sleeve undershirt with a sweater and pants... I drink hot tea all day long just to keep me thawed out... I hate eating out because restaurants are freezing. It's summer... I want to wear my summer clothes and show off my cute new frame... but I can't cause I'll be cold and miserable... any suggestions on how long before my body get's used to this...

I am not sure but I wish it would hurry up and be over. It is in the upper 80s here and extremely humid and I am sitting at my desk freezing my behind off. I am wearing pants, a t-shirt and a thin jacket. All my co-workers are hot. I am tired of being cold all the time.

Why are your calories set so low? Below 1000 on a non exercise day? Your body needs fuel to keep the fire going.

It sounds like you are anemic, or at the very least have borderline low iron levels. Go to your doctor.

Netting 300-500 calories (one day recently you even netted 156) will probably do that. Why is your daily goal set to 950?

    Hello,
I use to be cold like you however it was not due to the low calorie intake. It sounds like you might very well have low blood which is nothing to play with you probably need to up your iron levels. But first and foremost go see your doctor. If it turns out to be an iron defiency you need to take care of it right away let us know the outcome.

I had to put a heavy flannel shirt on (75 outside according to my computer, air conditioning inside). I've always been this way, regardless of my weight.

I'm in the process of moving from a low calorie diet (500-600/day - HCG Diet) to a TDEE based one by increasing my calorie count by 150 every two weeks. I was really uneducated about health and calorie counting before MFP. Hopefully as I increase my calories and get my metabolism back to runing at a high efficency rate my tolerance to cold will increase as well.

I've had my blood and thyroid checked... all is good... just need to get my calorie levels up.

I feel you. I'm sitting in my office right now wearing a sweater and with a hoodie wrapped around my legs like a blanket. I've always been like that, though, has nothing to do with low cals. It sucks. I can't stand it when the temps are below 80!

Not that it helps in the slightest but in the interest of keeping things even... I am always hot. I sweat at 76 if there is no air movement. I wear shorts well into late Fall and I sleep year round under a blanket that you can see through, literally. (and nothing else)

You will be cold until you eat more. It's not an iron issue, it's not a thyroid issue. It's a not-enough-fuel-for-your-body issue.

    Eat more, you'll warm up.

I was at 1200ish, and I was FROZEN constantly. Upped my calories and it's like someone lit a fire in me. Nice and warm. Your body needs food to function. Being cold should tell you that your body isn't working properly because it isn't getting the fuel it needs

**as for a timeline, it was almost immediate when I went from 1200 to even 1500 calories.

^^ This. I was cold all the time too. THen my nutritionist discovered I had SUPER LOW IRON. SInce I've upped my iron, I haven't had as many problems with it  Just remember, when eating plant based iron sources you need to have some vitamin c at the same time so your body can absorb it - otherwise you're not getting the iron you need. Goji berries, blackstrap molasses raw kale, and cooked spinach work well with Goji berries are my favorite in a smoothie with lemons or oranges.

I'm in the same part of AZ as you, so I had to look and make sure you aren't my co-worker. She has her heater going at her desk all summer while I've got my fan on. :)

I agree with people telling you to eat more and go see a Dr. I have read several places including from Dr's that anything under 1500 cal is not healthy.
That being said, welcome to my world. It is 90 and I have a sweater on. I have been this way my whole life, overweight and healthy.

A lot of people feel colder when they lose weight anyway (I certainly do), but hopefully with upping your calories, you shouldn't be as cold as you are now.

It's not just about calories, although yours do seem very low! I've always been a cold person (in a sweatshirt, blanket and having hot tea now actually!) and I've never adjusted to it. I do have low iron, B12, and potassium though so those are contributors. I just try to keep a sweater on hand whenever I go anywhere, especially the movies or restaurants because it's SO cold there!

Thanks for this! I'm definately looking forward to the upping the calories... slowly but surely i'll get there my tdee is 1445 but by that time i'll be in marathon training mode so I'll probably have to increase again...

I would definitely check in with the dr and have thyroid, iron etc..checked. I would also recommend Matt Stone's book Eat for Heat. Eating vlcd can mess with your metabolism.

    ^^this

What's your iron intake like? A lot of people who diet end up iron deficient because they cut so many calories there's no way they can get the proper nutrients. Also in doing so, they tend to cut out things like beef, dark meat poultry, whole eggs, etc which provide your body with iron.

Go see your doctor and get some blood work done...start eating a little beef, whole eggs, etc...also healthy fats...everyone goes all low fat/no fat and it's bull ****...you need your essential fats.

You are lacking a vitamin.. the same thing happened to me.. i was also always cold (even thou its winter now).. if i sit in the sauna it used to take me a while to warm up.. then the lady that gives my gym class told me that i should take a multivitamin.. it took a week for the multivitamin to kick in but now its working well and I am fine.. i take the multivitamin with a vitamin b complex everyday.. it surprisingly doesn't make me hungry and doesnt have any calories so i am cool with it.. u should consult ur doctor or ask the pharmacist to give u one

Considering you're netting 0 calories on some days, I would up it by more than 150 every two weeks. It sounds like you're malnourished... maybe anemic? At the very least, start taking a vitamin. At the most, up your calories faster, maybe 150/week instead of 150 every 2 weeks.

I'm cold all the tine, but I've had this annoying issue since i was a teen, so I know it has nothing to do with my weight loss.
I used to ignore my coldness and just dealt with it, then one day I was talking to my Dad and fainted. A few days later my Mom took me to see a Dr, and after various tests he found that I has hypoglycemic. As we were talking, he happened to ask me if I was cold a lot, and I said Yes! All the time!!, and he said that it's one of the many side effects.

ETA: At the time he prescribed an Iron supplement. I still need them, but honestly always forget to take them...

Check out this article I just found. It gives some good answers to multiple reasons why you may be cold. Short list: you are anemic, too thin, thyroid issues or don't have enough muscle mass.
