Body confused on hunger?

Hello all! I'm relatively new (joined early August) and I just love love love this site! I read a lot of the daily postings so I feel so much a part of this community already. I just wanted to ask a question concerning hunger and appetite. I do Body Jam at my local gym 3 x a week and a beginning step aerobics 1 x a week with a few yoga sessions thrown in for good measure. My biggest problem has always been portion control and sweets, so I am learning better techniques to conquer those. However, I have found that the days that I do exercise I am not hungry and can barely eat my calorie goal and the off days when I'm just relaxing and letting my body rest I could eat anything not nailed down. So far I have lost 10 lbs from my starting weight so I am very happy about that, but is my mind just completely confused as to the signals when I am hungry, or is this normal? Please share your ideas! Thanks!

I believe that experts say that while exercise can temporarily suppress the appetite generally the opposite is true and after a few hours you are more hungry, which is normal because if you are exercising your body needs fuel.
I'd guess that you are experiencing this drop in appetite for a time following exercise and maybe not noticing when your appetite comes bakc because it's a scheduled snack or meal time.
You may be ravenous when you aren't doing anything out of boredom OR you may not be eating enoght filling (lots of fibre) foods. Try adding more fibre through vegetables, fruit and whole grains to your diet and see if it helps.0 -
My sister has been doing this for a long time and trains for marathons. When I first started this calorie counting, I ran into the same problem as you. During the days that I was working out, I could barely eat my calories for the day. The next day...I wanted to eat everything not nailed down. My sister told me that if I didn't make sure I ate all the calories for the day including my workout calories, my body would react like yours did the next day. She eats a little over her required calories on the days she is working out so that she has sufficient fuel and her body doesn't want to store up the following day. I tried this and now I'm not starving the following day. Hope this helps.0
