Ok, so I have been low carb for 1 week now, going over last night with nectarines.....I am really happy with the 8-9 lb loss this week and I am confident I will get through this too......but I am having a carb craving something awful! I am on Atkins and in the induction phase....no more than 20 grams of Carbs a day. SO is my hubby.....so I just sent him out for Rootbeer and Whip cream.........rootbeer floats it is. Anyone have any other ideas ?

I am a psych major...and there is a reason you ar having a carb craving...Your brain needs carbs...keep this up and you wont know your own name in a week!...alternate, if you must...a week of Atkins a week of WW...
Anyway, what you want at the end of this is a life, not a diet. So, find some balance...immediate weight loss is not attractive if you gain a lot fo it back becase you have to live it every day...
Girl....You can fo this! Listen to your body...the reason we have all gotten where we are, is that we have all stopped listenting...that is what this site, and these friends are ALL about...:flowerforyou:0 -
I've done low carb and lost weight really fast. Guess what? I also gained it back REALLY fast, and more than the weight I had lost.:blushing: Sorry, I agree that eliminating some carbs is beneficail~ whites and processed foods but being really drastic is not good.0

Sassie,
I had this problem until I figured out that artificial sweeteners (including Spenda) bring out the carb monster--BIG TIME!! This isn't true for everyone, but since I figured it out for me, doing low carb, which is part of the HCG diet protocol has been MUCH easier. Tonight I sat at a restaurant table with a bowl of corn chips and ignored them. When I was having a carb monster attack, they would have been gone and I would have been the one who went to get another basket!!
One thing I have figured out about low carbing, or any other eating plan--If you go back to your old habits, yes you will gain, but that is not a shortcoming of low carbing, that is a simple fact of life. It has to be a lifestyle change, and low carbing is a means to an end. If the program is properly followed, your carb consumption will get higher over time as your body adjusts and you figure out what works and what doesn't as far as what makes you gain.
Hang in there, Sassie, and remember that those artificial sweeteners are in diet soda (ie root beer) too., as well as other "diet foods." If you have a suspicion this could be the problem for you, read ALL labels on everything you are eating to make sure you don't have something in your diet that has artificial sweetener you didn't know about.
I am using a Stevia-based sweetener, called Truvia. Works great, no aftertaste, and the carb monster is no longer living in my house!!!:drinker: :drinker: :drinker:0 -
Atkins diet is GREAT. Stick with it. Have some Atkins cheese cake or something. I think the recipe is in Dr. Atkins' Super-Energy Diet. It uses Piggy Puffs for the crust. Have some Caesar Salad, Pork Rinds/Piggy Puffs, cheese, olives, steak, pork chops, bacon, peanuts or whatever. It takes a while to wean yourself from carbohydrates but you get used to it. According to Atkins, your brain does NOT need carbs - it likes ketones too. I had no brain problems (AFAIK) on the Atkins diet. Best of luck. Stick with it. If all else fails, have a baked potato or rice rather than something sweet. I love MFP, which makes counting calories and energy balance easier than I ever imagined, but my secret weapon is restricting carbs, which I learned from Atkins.0

Thanks for the advice everyone, I had dinner......pork chop, stir fried veggies in butter and pepper, a LOADED salad.......with blue cheese and to kill that darned crazy sugar craving (which by the way I am not a sugar person) I did have a rootbeer for dinner.
I am sticking with the Low Carb eating, I think it is working for both my husband and I. He is not sticking with the 20 grams of carbs considering he used to eat 100's of carbs a day.....I would say he is at like 50 now.....which I think is acceptable.
Gonna just hang in there...................thanks again.0
