I just ordered a fitbit one. I'm really interested in seeing what I burn on a weekly average(my schedule is the same most of the time). I just saw on another post though that I still require a hrm for workouts? I don't have a hrm and after just paying over 80 quid on the fit bit, I am reluctant to buy one! I was hoping the fitbit would take into account for my workouts:ohwell:

Should i just send it back and get a hrm instead and rely on online calcs?

I love my fitbit one I use it way more than my HRM but that is only because I only weight train. If you do a lot of cardio and want to see your burns get a HRM instead of the fitbit

Nah, keep the fitbit. You may want an HRM later but a Fitbit is a very motivating tool and I definitely use it more often than my HRM.

The fitbit is going to measure your walking/running pretty accurately. It also appears to measure my machine cardio and most group exercises classes in line with my HRM.

For exercises a fitbit cannot measure, an HRM isn't great either - lifting, yoga, swimming, etc. For those, simply start the "activity timer" on the Fitbit when you start and stop it when done. Then, when you sync it, you can tell the Fitbit what you did during that period and it will adjust your calories burned.

I love my Fitbit and I've used it every single day since I got it. It's so motivating. If forced to choose between my HRM and fitbit, I'd probably choose the Fitbit.

thanks for your reply. The only cardio will be 20 mins hiit on the treadmill 2 x week, the rest is resisiance training. You think I should give the fit bit a go?

I have a fitbit zip. It isn't even synced to the website. I use it mainly to count how many steps I take during the day. Thats why I got the cheaper one.

My Fitbit is key to my daily calorie goals. I keep my activity level at "sedentary" and let my activity captured through Fitbit increase my food throughout the day. Fitbit isn't a training tool like a HRM and I use both. Took me some time to understand why though but I hate not having my Fitbit with me now and have purchased several to replace the ones I've lost (now found) or laundered.

I have a fitbit zip and it gives me about the same calorie burn as my HRM does when running/walking. I still use my HRM for dancing and a few other cardio exercises, but if all your doing is hiit, it should be pretty accurate for that.
