Hello

I joined yesterday and just thought I should introduce myself to the community. My name is Alonzo and I've been dieting since 2010. I weighed 260 lbs then and I'm at about 188 now. Yeah, I know I could've definitely lost a lot more in that time frame but I'm pretty much relying solely on my diet, and secondly there were times where I took really long breaks. For instance last year I don't think I resumed my diet up until maybe November, but I'm back on track now.

For the moment, my goal is 172 lbs so I'm looking to wrap this up in the next couple months. I know it seems I've showed up pretty late in the game, but the main reason I joined is just to learn and share information. I'd especially be interested in learning how to get past those dieting plateaus because I'll tell you, things could've gone a LOT smoother if it weren't for them.

Stats

Sex: Male
Age: 25
Height: 6'1
Frame: Medium
Current Weight: 188 lbs
Goal: 172 lbs
Daily Caloric Allowance: 2,050

Ummm.... why are you trying to get so skinny???? At 6' tall the recommended weight for a woman is 190lbs. I know it is higher for a man. No wonder you are hitting a plateau.

Sorry I wasn't trying to come off rude I was gonna say more but my computer sent the message without me trying to end it. I was going to suggest that you look into what the correct weight range is for your body. It seems to me that you maybe trying to force your weight below what your natural body weight should be. I am not an expert but I think you should check. Whatever you decide I wish you the best of health and good wishes.
  • Hey Vivian,

I'm mostly going by the charts from medical websites. For 6'1 medium framed males I usually see a range of 150 - 177 lb and to be honest, I thought the charts were BS at first, but when I reached my initial goal (220lb) I found myself far from being satisfied.

I really just would like to get rid of the handles. There almost gone now, but I think at 172 I should be where I wanna be.

Here's an example of a site I used to calculate my ideal weight ---> http://goo.gl/mqawA

I think it is a good idea to judge what is right for you. I totally understand the love handle thing. I"m am luckier in than most in that area. It is one of the first places I lose weight, there and my waist. My thighs are another story :). I still have a long way to go. Congratulations on your success this far. I am going off a chart in my doctors office. I think different charts have different goals.

I went to you chart page and put in my information and it popped up with what they say is as high as they go for women. At a height of 5'10" and suggested I go by another indicator. I am 6ft tall. It also suggested a waist size to height test, which I am not sure how to do. I go to the doctor around the first of the month. While he is a general practitioner and not a weight loss doctor I will ask him what the waist to height ratio is. I think I saw it on MyfitnessPal ratios though.
  • Yeah, I've noticed that most charts cap the women height at around 5'10 or 6'0. Here's another one that goes up to 6'0 :

With regards to the waist to height test, I think that's to calculate your frame, but I'm not sure. In any case your doctor should be able to figure that out for you.

btw, thanks for the friends request! Didn't realize they had those here.

Thanks for the new weight chart. MFP is great allowing you to have friends who will support you in your goals, be it tweaking your diet, finding an exercise buddy to help you achieve your exercise goals. Really anything, even if you just having a down day and need a little support. I personally like to post at least one low cost healthy food choice on my page every day. I try to give people different healthy food choice they might not be currently using in their diet. All of these choices are researched before making it to my page. If at any time you have a comment about a certain food be it good or bad your input is most welcome. This is my little contribution to my friends eating healthy. My diet is also open to my friends so any of my friends can go look at what I am eating day to day.

Okay that chart is within 10lbs of my goal which I think is acceptable. As I have a lot of weight to lose I wanted to give myself a realistic goal in the beginning and when I got there to re-evaluate at that time. I have not been under 200 lbs since my accident. That is going to change. I had given up but I'm back :)
