Little high Blood sugar...

You need to talk to your doctor and/or a dietician. Did he say how high was "a little high"?0 -
Dr didn't seem to concerned but being adopted I have no idea of family history. my Glucose was 120.8 and blood carbon dioxide was 35.0
I would like to get a jump on this now and make it a life style and not a "Have To" style.0 -
So, was there any follow-up on that? I would think that if the doctor noticed your blood sugar was a little high, he'd want to check out things like insulin to look into the possibility of developing diabetes. Do have a way that you can check your blood glucose?
Yes, I would think you'd need to watch sugar intake, especially the high glycemic index foods that will spike your blood sugar and insulin.0 -
I have type 2 diabetes, usually you can control your sugar with diet and exercise. A couple things you might want to do is with MFP log your foods and get a glucose monitor take a reading 2 hours after a meal and log the results you will then be able to figure out what makes your sugar high for example if you eat a lot of carbs and then 2 hours later you have high sugar you know you need to limit the amount of carbs at each meal. Another thing is after a meal take a little walk it doesn't have to be a workout but just a little walk this will help your body use up the excess glucose in your blood.
You Dr should have mentioned these things to you. I am guessing that 120 was a fasting reading which is getting to the borderline. Your Dr should also run a blood test called A1c which shows long term sugar the prick test just shows the level right then.
Loosing fat can also lower your blood sugar levels, for as much study that has been done it is shocking how much is not known about diabetes.0 -
Cut out as much refine sugar and carbs as you can. Just make sure you also keep your total carbs down lower then the average recomended, don't just replace all refined with complex ones. I would invest in a glucose meter, you can get them on Amazon for $25-$30 and check your levels 1hour after eating. This will give you a good idea of how the foods that you are eating are effecting your blood sugar. If you have a certain meal that seems to spike it you will know to try to avoid that one or moderate the portioning.
For total carbs I would recommend going as low as 150g/day and see how you feel.0 -

Was it fasting glucose, or had you eaten? If you ate, then it wasn't really that high. Normal fasting glucose should be 72-100. Random blood glucose should be below 125.0

Id ask to have an A1C done and see what your past 3 months look like, if you are always high then your Dr should give you the next steps.0
