Has anyone heard of this? Is it a good program? ... I am not sure if I can do it. It sounds sooo intense, and I've been really slacking in the exercise lately. I don't want to go and make a fool of myself or feel like I am going to die!

Crossfit is one of the best bang for your buck workouts. You get more done in a shorter time. The best thing is you are going at your own pace so you really don't have to worry about making a fool of yourself.0

I adore CrossFit! It is super intense, but don't let that scare you. If you find the right gym, you'll have a real comraderie and people will really boost you up amd make you into a better athlete than you'd ever thought possible. If you go in for an intro to it, you'll find that they really start you off (or at least they should) extremely slow! You need to get your form right before you can really start lifting heavily. Due to a job change I had to leave my gym (SO SAD!!), and I haven't worked out with them in six months or so. I'm still fit, though, compared to before I began.
Workouts are only about 20 minutes or so, too, and you can become ripped! I say go for it, check it out & if you like the vibe of the place, stick with it. You won't be disappointed.0 -
I have never heard of crossfit but I am all about short workouts!!! Is it a class that you take because if so my gym does not offer it. Do they make dvds?0

I have been doing CrossFit for about a month now. I only do it once a week at a church down the road. It is VERY intense! It can last anywhere from 8 minutes......to 1 hour..... it is like the boot camps that some peope are doing. The good thing about cross fit is that they usually have the WOD (Workout of the day) and then they have it broken down into the major hard one, the less hard one, and then a really less hard one.....so you have a choice of which one you can do...... Give it a try, but don't spend any money on it until you see if you like it and can do it. Also, the workouts change every week. One week you might be running and doing pushups, the next week you might be doing squats and jumping rope. It all depends on what your instructor decides for you to do that session. Good Luck.

Maybe I will go and check it out today--My friend that I am going with works out frequently and I don't want to see like a fatty or whatever. Maybe I'll go to the gym today and try it out--they give you like a three day free trial and then you can decide if you like it.
I am not sure about the diet though, it sounds REALLY hard to do... Did you guys do the diet too?0 -
Been dieting 8 weeks and have lost 20 lbs..... still have another 31 to go. but I will be happy just losing another 20. it is real easy once you set your mind to it and get in the groove. Just figur your target weight, add a zero to it and that should be your total calories for the day. AS long as it is not under 1200. That is what my personal trainer has me doing. My target is 185 lbs. So my calories per day target is 1850, which I come in under every day. Mind over matter. But from your pictures, you really do't look like you need to lose any weight.0

All of the Crossfit gyms that I have looked into charge WAY too much for what you are getting (in my opinion). One thing is certain though...it has stirred some major controversy in the fitness world. It draws LOTS of criticism from those who hate it and almost cult-like loyalty from those who love it.
My personal thought is that it's probably good for general fitness, but I'm not willing to pay what the Crossfit gyms in my area charge.0 -

I've never heard that before, but at first glance it seems like it could be a good rule of thumb for most people. That would put me at 2100, which mathematically would cause me to lose a pound a week if I didn't exercise.0 -

I LOVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVE CROSSFIT. It is super expensive though. I went to a couple free sessions and I would totally do it every day if I had the money to do so.0

You will not see many overweight people at Crossfit I'll promise you that much. And if you do, they won't be that way for long.
Crossfit is way more cost-efficient than a personal trainer. I've been going to a Crossfit gym since April and have lost about 15 lbs. of body fat (10 lbs on scale plus 5 lbs. of muscle). In that time frame, I've gone from not even being able to get up to the bar, to being able to do 3 kipping pull-ups in a row. I've gained 3 personal trainers who are intent on getting me to my fitness goals and have taken a personal interest in me. I've gained an entire community of people who cheer me on daily and help me reach my full potential as far as fitness goes. They recommend that you do either the zone diet or the paleo diet ("caveman" is paleo), but they don't endorse it. They do say you need to "diet", and really by that they mean change your terrible eating habits for life.
Crossfit is a no excuses workout. You get in, get your sh** done and go home (if there's no happy hour afterwards :P).
It is tough. It's intense. I have never left the gym not drenched in sweat. It is a no-egos allowed place because you will get hurt if you try to do something you're not ready for. You can scale down the exercises if you need to, but the goal is to go as hard as you can and as fast as you can until you're done. It is healthy competition and athletic training IMO at it's finest.
If that sounds like something you'd like, then I highly suggest trying it out.0 -
I haven't done Crossfit myself but have a friend who started doing it and has since lost a ton of weight, slashed his bodyfat % and is now doing Olympic Weighlifting style comps and lifting over 100kg in a Clean and Jerk.
He advocates the ZOne diet.
One thing he has said, and I have noticed from others is that if you are not very careful and focussed (like in most things I suppose) you can get injured a little more easily as ther eis a lot of dynamic moves involving weights.
It doesn't surprise me about the cost though, most of the equipment is specialised and requires a lot of room / high ceilings etc. Having tried to buy the stuff I can see why they charge so much.
I would honestly suggest giving it a go, I certainly wouldn't advise against it as I haven't done it, the only reaaon being there i not a gym near me that does it.
What have you got to lose? If it's not for you, you now know. If it is - great!
As for looking silly etc, in my opinion the only person thinking that is ourselves. I would suspect that most Crossfit particiants would respect you just for turning up. In my experience most gym goers think far more of an inexperience novice than the person who is sat at home on their butt!0 -

YES! I was injured last night (very minor) because someone walked behind me when I was using the rower and smacked me in the head. You have to be really careful when doing Crossfit. Someone is always working on something and there are almost always weights involved.As for looking silly etc, in my opinion the only person thinking that is ourselves.
