More Calories Burned While on Period??

My mother has always told me that one may burn more calories when one is on her period....
I thought it might've been just an old wives' tale, but out of curiosity, I did some research.
According to this source, menstrual cycles do have an effect on the metabolism!

    Oh, come on. I'm sure you burn like...50 calories over that 4-7 day time period with how hard your body is working to churn out your inners. You lose a few pounds every time! Well, and you gain them in the first place...but we're not going into that.

    Here's the key quote from the yourhealthista.com article...

    "A few days before and during the time you are menstruating, you do burn more calories due to the additional cellular activity taking place internally. Some female metabolisms may increase up to 15% during this time due to hormonal changes and loss of blood."

    So you burn about an extra 300 calories a day!

    Interesting... could this explain that while I do feel a little bloated during/before that week... lately I always have better losses on the scale the week after?
