Figuring out Food thats not in the MPF foods

Hi - I have this problem when i go out to eat. Not everything is listed, Usually i can pick one similar and take a guess. But do you have a way to figure something out?

For Example, Corner Bakery - turkey sandwich - has one listed, but its not the one I ate. Mine was a turkey wrap. This one in the MFP food listing has the one with the bun which is probably more calories, sodium, fat, etc.

Can you tell me how you figure out something that is not in there? I am so shocked about the sodium content of these sandwiches.

Also at work, they had food served after our meeting. They had these sandwiches, and I took the turkey wrap. If i know there is food where it seems to have maybe more calories or sodium or whatever than I wish, would removing the bread help? Is this where all the sodium and fat and calories are in the bread? I'm thinking that if worse comes to worst and i have no clue, it might be best to take the bread off and just know that i have eliminated where the culprit is to these high counts of sodium fat and calories.

Thanks for your help!

To keep it accurate, i enter items separately if i cant find it... Takes a bit of time, but i need to know what im eating :)

I think your best bet is to try to enter the ingredients separately. So look up bread, or wraps, butter, mayo, deli turkey, lettuce, etc., and see what it comes to. Sandwiches and wraps can be quite shocking in the number of calories. Deli meats have a lot of sodium.

I would suspect the meat is the source of high sodium, also any cheese, plus the sauce. There would be some in the bread also, but not as much as in the processed meat.

I don't think the majority of the sodium is coming from the bread. List everything separately. Turkey slice, cheese slice, etc.

If it's not in the MFP data base you can try to add it yourself. Most restaurants (not all) do have their nutrition info posted on the internet. I just google what I plan to eat at a certain place and usually come up with a good idea. Then I just add a food to the data base from their info.

If it's something being served at a meeting, maybe ordered in from a cater/restaurant it's harder, but logging everything separately under "my recipes" and using that recipe whenever you have that item makes it easier to log, ie faster.

The sodium I'm guessing is not mostly coming from the bread, but from the meat....deli meats tend to have a lot of extra sodium. If you're watching your sodium intake that's something to think about. If it's not a health concern........I don't watch the sodium, I just drink a lot of water, it should help with the water retention.
