I often have trouble with anxiety and need a little help getting to sleep. I will take an advil PM if I'm hurting or zzzquil if not. Problem is, I always get so so HUNGRY after I take it... Does anyone else deal with this? How do you make sure to not binge?

I never made that connection before but you're right, zzzquil makes me hungry! I always take it right before getting in bed, though. I usually play sudoku for a while on my phone because it helps take my mind off of other things, the narrow focus helps me sleep and it distracts me from the hunger. I fall asleep pretty quickly with the help so I don't have the urge to get out of bed and eat.0

Could you leave a few calories for a small snack at night? Maybe if you have something light to take the edge off the hunger, by the time the tablets kick in you will be able to drift off. Before the sensation of needing even more food does!0

Take something else. Have you tried melatonin?0

I haven't tried that. Is it over the counter? Any side effects?0 -
Back when I had back problems I was prescribed various things over the years for sleep. They all made me hungrier. I don't really know any sleep aids that don't produce that effect. The only thing I would advise is saving some cals for right before you take the medicine and then head straight to bed hopefully not to stay awake any longer and have time to get hungry, the food already in your belly might ward that off. That's the only idea I can think of.0

I take Unisom 25mg. I have a REALLY hard time sleeping no matter what and now that I'm pregnant I'm up 10 times a night and have trouble going back to bed. Unisom is safe while pregnant so I feel good recommending it. It doesn't make me hunrgy. I just find I have to take it a couple hours (2-3) earlier than when I plan on going to bed.0

I use to take melatonin. The doctor said to stop taking it because it can mess up your natural melatonin levels. Although it is natural, sleep is already hard so I didn't want to mess up my natural levels. They also do not sell melatonin in other countries such as the UK. I am not sure why, but I am guessing that it might not be as good for you as some other products. Unisom also comes in a 50 mg gel cap.0

I still take melatonin, on the advice of my doctor. Admittedly, I have Asperger's, which results in a melatonin deficiency, so it has been of a big help to me.

For me, none of the side effects have materialized, but as I said, I may not be a typical case. Beyond that, if you know you are going to be hungrier before bedtime, set aside calories for a late night snack to curb that hunger without going over your daily limit.0
