incline walking shoes???

We have a great local park that has some wonderful inclines. I've really enjoyed it, but have been trekking in running shoes. Pushing my son in the stroller has been good for getting the heart rate up... my concern is my shoes... I'm not sure what to look for but I'm feeling some pain in the top of my foot. I was told by a reliable friend to try cross trainers, but those are kind of hard to find... any input or tips would be really really appreciated =)
