My husband I are starting P90x together starting Monday. We are also following the Nutrition plan since I cook anyway, it will give us some new recipes to try.
We are starting out with the Classic P90X. I am most scared of eating that many calories! I have struggled with weight all my life and eat around 1400-1700 calories a day now, but their nutrition plan wants me to eat close to 2400! Weight training is new to me whereas I am more familiar with cardio. Change is hard for me sometimes, but I am looking foward to the changes I hope to see
Any advice, tips, etc that you have to share in starting this program would be greatly appreciated!!! I am new to P90X, new to eating so many calories, and new to weight training. Help!

P90X is an extreme program, you will be burning a few hundreds calories each workout so your body needs enough fuel to go through them and to recover and repair muscle tissue, don't be afraid to eat.
2400 calories looks a lot for a girl, are you sure you calculated it right?
My best advise would be to follow the nutrition plan, not that you need to follow all the recipe but take the right amount of calories and follow the recommended macros and you should be all set for great results. Nutrition is 80% of the equation for results.
Also don't be afraid to lift weights, and modify when you can't do the exercice.0 -
Congrats on starting P90X! I had gone almost 20 yrs without ever working out when I started P90X the 1st time. I've completed it 3 times over the past year and I have nothing but great things to say about it. Don't get caught up on the calories; follow the guide and you'll see results. Of course it's different for everyone, but I lost about 30 lbs in those 90 days. I didn't drink any alcohol, I did the Ab Ripper 3 times/week, I did the Stretch disc every Sunday, and I never missed a day in those 90 days.
I've been in maintenance mode for about 6 months and the pre-workout calorie number I use is about 2,000. (I'm 5' 10" / 160 lbs and I now eat back my exercise calories.)
Good luck!0 -
I am following the recipes at first because I have to get used to the macros and what my meals should look like.
As far as 2400 calories, I was using the calculator that is used to determine it, but it does seem high!0 -
I followed the macros they recommended within 5%. I run in addition to P90X so I always maintained a slightly higher carb percentage. 2400-2600 cals was just right for me to maintain my weight (I'm 5'10" at 155 lbs). I ate a clean diet and dropped several % body fat during the 90 days. I recently finished P90X and am now in a kind of limbo trying to decide if I want to do it again or try something else.0

Congrats to you all that have been successful with the program! I only can hope that I see those results! wow!0

I love P90X! It's a really great program. I don't have much to say about the actual diet plan, since I didn't follow it (I simply ate 1500 calories every day). However, about the program, I will say this: it is really hard. Make sure to pace yourself. You (probably) won't be able to follow along with them on day 1. Hurting yourself is not a good way to get fit. Make sure you set realistic goals for yourself.0

Hmmm.....when I did P90X I remmeber eating about 1500 calories and my husband was 1800. But I think we just listened to his "coach" who also told me to eat 1200 (even though I was still BFing ) and not eat back exercise calories....so I think he didn't really know what he was talking about :P I was pretty much at goal weight when we started but did lose a few inches and felt and looked even better Good luck! It's tough at first, but gets better, and alot of the recipes were really good! Only thing I would say is, I could NEVER meet the macros they suggested..I needed more carbs than they allowed, so changed it up a bit (a bit more carb, less protein). Good luck!0

It was just explained to me that the 2300 is for maintenance and not to lose weight and that I need to decrease the 500 calories for weight lose. Phew, glad I asked before I started GAINING weight0
