So Much SUGAR!!

Hey all! I just recently joined MFP and LOVE it!

Before joining, my main focus was just calories... it's so good to be able to track everything (sodium, carbs, sugar) in one place.

One thing I have notice is I'm eating a lot of sugar. A majority of it (I'd say 95%) is from fruits. How BAD is this really...? I mean, it's FRUIT! It's not like I'm eating 25 candy bars or drinking soda or anything...

Still a newbie, so just looking for advice. Thoguhts...?

Thanks in advance! :)

Welcome! Fruit is the good kind of sugar and it has a lot of fiber. Kudos for eating a lot - I would wait for your first weigh in to gauge how you did. If you see a weight loss then the sugar shouldn't be an issue. How are you with vegetables?

Someone commented on this earlier today and from what I gathered, most folks on MFP are not tracking their sugar---see link.

I know I altered my settings because I was more concerned with my sodium intake than I was my sugar intake.

I have only been on here 2 1/2 weeks and found I can go over on sugar. I do watch sodium and fat closer. You can still watch your sugar because some foods have a lot and you don't realize it but at least watching it makes you aware. But don't over analyze your sugar. As long as its natural its not to bad.
  • Thank you guys so much, this puts me at ease! I was getting nervous seeing the red!

I've always been of the opinion that sugar is sugar, irrespective of where you attain it from. If you're going to get sugars from somewhere it may as well come pre-packaged with fibre and vitamins, as it does in fruit, than from a chocolate bar.
