does staying home alot affect deit??!

hello guys and gals im 29 old male from kuwait nice to meet u all.
i been a 10 years long dieter and lost some and gained some but never ever had a steady weight loss and never reached the finish line.
i have tryed every single diet on this planet ...even all the diets that gained world famous and i spent many many thousands of money on this cause and sadly no chance for me to reach the finish line.
however something astonishing happened to me few days ago...when i set down and begun to be honest crying a little bit about it i begun realizing that this is it and i might die from weight without being able to do anything..but i realized something....
all these years of failed weight loss projects and 10 years of repeating it i ACTUALLY never changed my daily routine..
u will ask me now (daily routine??...wth..)
i will tell u why...my daily routine is like this : wake up - eat breakfast - playing video game - watching computer - eating lunch - watching tv - play video games - etc...
i actually realized that most of these years i been a (stay-home-alot) type of guy...like 80% -90% of the day im in home and only go out for necessary things like getting food or going to work (which is a desk job and only like 4 hrs per day) and get back to home and enjoy rest of the day doing all the mentioned activities i said....and that also was wat i was doing even dieting i only spent 1 hr per day in the gym and then i get back home and do same activities.
and during that period i actually rarely stuck to diet,,,,maybe only 1-2 days best shot to staying on course....and guess wat? i actually dont have any reason to stay alot of time in house its only my choice and i simply enjoyed it.
when i realized that i was like (wth..) the only shared thing between my diets is the staying alot at home habit.
so i have decided to do a test and begun my diet again with a plan to stay home only for each meal to eat then go out like (eating breakfast - going out 6 hrs - getting back home eating lunch- going out 6 hrs - getting back eating dinner) and so forth.
guess wat happened??.....i never failed!!! and the diet went very well and without any sign of hunger even and when i was outside i never thought of food?!?!
did anyone have this experience before??.....does staying most of the day in the house affect the diet?? and how ?? need a scientific - psychological explaination plz

You can totally lose weight with diet alone but any exercise you do is going to help. It's said that weight loss happens in the kitchen and fitness happens in the gym. The reason your diet probably works when you go out is because you aren't home snacking and you are burning some calories just by not sitting playing games.0

The longer I'm home the more I eat. Its easier for me to stay on track when im working because I wont bring money with me to buy bad foods so I have to eat the healthy foods I pack.0

Boredom and not having to think very much do seem to contribute to eating far more.0

I'm the opposite I work from home about 50% of the time, the rest is travelling, hotels, restaurants, etc. When I'm away from home I tend not to drink so much and restaurant meals tend to have a lot of salt for flavour so I retain water which disappears in the first three days back home drinking normally. Also at home I am totally in control of my diet and find it much, much easier to work out and ensure I don't go over. Eating out is just a guess at best. Having said that, my weight loss rate is steady over the past 5 months so I must be doing something right!0

Medical issues keep me from getting out much and I always found I was looking to snack food all day and especially in the evening .
I finally had enough of watching my health go down, and want to be healthy so I can live a more productive life with my husband and three boys. I am able to do some walking so I at least focus on trying to get out every day now and stick to this. Only 2 weeks yet and lost 8 pounds .....not so sure how it will keep going but the amazing stories here I am hoping will help keep me motivated.Keep the positive outlook,its half the battle!!0 -
I definitely eat more when I'm at home being "lazy" vs. when I'm at work or out of the house. I think you just need to overcome the boredom eating. You can absolutely lose weight at home, it will just be more challenging. First step- get rid of all the crap! If it's not in the house, it won't tempt you! If you're a single guy, this should be easy. Second step- ask yourself EVERY time you reach for anything to put in your mouth "Am I hungry or bored?" If you can do that, and answer yourself truthfully, you should have no problem kicking these bad habits! Also, break up the day a bit with a walk or go to YouTube for an exercise video. It doesn't take much and the more weight you lose, the easier it will be for you to get up and exercise!!! Bottom line- FORM NEW HABITS. Your current habits put you here to begin with- ditch them and weight loss will follow! Good luck to you!0

It isn't so much your time at home, it is what you do with your time at home.
Sitting all day is definitely a bad thing and if you can't control your snacking it is another bad thing to have food available all the time.
But, weight can be lost at home, on the road, at school, anyplace. The trick is to stay as active as possible. Housecleaning, laundry, getting out for short walks, all help contribute.
The bottom line is that you have to do what you have to do to find out what works for you. If you can't stay home and control your eating, then get out. If you won't move around while home, then get out and do something, anything.0 -
I'm with Ron on this one. I too am able to control the diet easier whilst at home, as everything I can choose to cook/prepare is healthy. Granted, I do sometimes eat things that can be fairly calorific, but I still have the choice. Whereas if I am out and about, working or socialising, the only healthy option I seem to have found (apart from packing some kind of pack lunch) is a subway. There must be a Mcdonalds and KFC every ten miles or so, which is a bad thing.0

I'm home a lot too. I just add one hour of exercise a day now, and watch my diet.0

my god yes! Im a stay at home mum to a 2 yr old and 8 month old and I have to try so hard to not eat for the boredom of staying home. When I worked before kids I ate breakfast, lunch and dinner and that was it as I didnt have time. I try to go out more now as it makes me less likely to eat too much and its exercise with all the walking! Im also trying to stop eating the boys left overs, now they go straight in the bin0

For me, yes, in a good way. I am at home pretty much all day studying for the bar exam, and I love that I have all this healthy food readily available (in fact, it's part of why I study at home rather than going to the law library -- well, that and the fact that I can study in my PJs at home). Sure, when I was working I could pack a healthy lunch, but it's not the same as having full access to tons of healthy options depending on what I feel like at that very moment.
However, I definitely understand some people who say that have issues just mindlessly munching at home -- that used to be me, too. I combat that by keeping a pretty regular eating schedule, and not straying from it much. Breakfast at 7:45, sometimes a fruit before I work out at 11, turkey sandwich lunch at 1, nuts and a fruit in the mid-afternoon around 4:30, and dinner at 7. For me it's all about routine!0 -

I am the opposite, I eat better at home, because I can control what I eat. I know exactly how many calories I am eating. I also keep a ton of healthy snacks and foods around the house. When I am out, I always find it hard to find something healthy. I much rather eat at home.0

I'm the opposite. I don't keep a lot of junk in my house so if I'm out and about, I'm far more likely to go through a drive thru or to a restaurant and eat terribly. Now that I really understand my patterns, it's not that I don't leave my house, I'm just far smarter about when I do it. I eat before I leave or go out between meals, that way I'm not starving at lunch or around dinner and grab something for convenience sake.0

Make your kids eat what you do. Just because they're kids doesn't mean they need bad snacks. If they're hungry enough, they will eats whats in the house, lol.0 -
I also agree with Ron. Just got back from a 4 day hotel stay and up 3 pounds, after losing 3 pounds just before I left. Although I took some healthy items with me, i still had to eat out more than I normally do. Working from home/being at home puts me in control of my diet. Whenever I am out I find it more difficult to eat healthy.0

You may find that's just water and after you've been home a few days drinking normally, it will disappear. It happens to me every time, I come back after five days away and weigh the same or more than I did before I left. But over the next three days I lose up to 6 lbs (3lbs over to 3 lbs under in 3 days!)0
