New, ex-bulimic, 5"9 195, help appreciated

Hello everyone, I just found this site, and to say the least, it looks pretty promising- in terms of something that I could really use to get to my goal, for advice, support, and so on.. I am an ex bulimic (I guess that you could say- it's been a bit over a month since I began recovering), I got down to 145 during this time (which I was told by my doctor and those around me was boarder line too thin- some how) now I am 195 and absolutely miserable (as some of you may know bulimia can cause weight gain in people after it's 'slimming process') .

My metabolism seems to be completely shot and while I tend to crave sweets every now and then, for the most part- I probably eat less than the average person, yet still the weight gain and or staying at this awful weight and no weight loss... Tips on how to get my body back on track and my metabolism (or whatever this is due to) back to that of a normal human being would be amazing.. I absolutely hate this weight that I have gained, I can't stand it, which has made the recovery process even more of a hard time.. I would really like to get back to being around 162-165.

If anyone can help by giving some tips/advice or sharing their knowledge on any of this, I'd greatly appreciate it.. I really want to get my body back on track and lose this awful weight (as I mentioned about 20 times above- lol).

Thanks and it's nice to 'meet' everyone. :)

Hello and welcome! I don't have any experience with bulimia, but I know there are others on this site who do. Just keep in mind that everyone here is entitled to their own opinion and it is up each of us to decipher what is valid, worthwhile advice and what is garbage. I wish you the best of luck and feel free to friend me if you like!
  • Hi,

I had bulimia for several years- I've been in recovery for about eight months, not to say I haven't binged in that time but I've been able to manage the feelings towards food better. In those eight months because I wasn't purging a gained heaps of weight and my diet was pretty crap so I gained a fair bit of weight. I started clean eating about a month ago and it's made so much difference. I did use this website during early recovery but found having the attitude that I wanted to lose weight became unhealthy and my mentality towards food went down hill again. Of course now I still want to lose a bit but I try to focus on being healthy..

Basically I focus on cutting out processed foods and eat clean which means little chemicals or un natural stuff (if you want I'd be happy to explain it to you, or you can have a look on google but there are different variations of it), then I make sure I exercise, get out do stuff, and then lastly I focus on being happy with my body. Yes I want to change it but no matter what it looks like its still me on the inside.

I spend a lot of time on my blogs so you could get some info off there or get hold of me there if you like, or of course I've just started logging food here as well so you can contact me here too.

tuf-fit-out.tumblr.com is the main hub for my blogs :)

    Good luck! :)

Thanks for the replies so far, girls. Caatalina, thanks for the response, I'll definitely check out your blog. What would you say the benefit of non processed food eating (or dieting lol) is? Is there a weight loss benefit at all? And where do you find such foods these days, since everything is practically processed?

I don't have any advice, but a lot of support to offer you. You've come to a great place, regardless of your specific food issues.

    Welcome!

I cannot offer any advice either. However, feel free to add me for support :)
  • Basically I found that when I started eating clean it really made a huge difference to my overall well being as well as yes it does help with weight loss- the more processed and refined foods contain more sugar and bad fats (some fats are good!) and aren't as fulling nor is the energy as easily accessed by the body when it needs it.. Its kind of like trying to fuel our bodies efficiently. It is more of a life style change than a 'diet' say but you feel so much better and the results and changes it makes to your body are fab.

Yes everything these days is so processed and so it does feel like at the start you are giving up so much, but your not really. And after a while you realise you dont want to go back to 'normal' eating.
I feel this poster pretty much is a good general guide line http://tuf-fit-out.tumblr.com/post/54243295349/styleyourbody-fitness-health-blog-x
And then you stick to the 80/20 rule, 80% good and doing and eating what you should be then it doesnt matter if the other 20% is something bad or a cheat day

But yeah, let me know if you have any questions or anything :)
