Next time I go shopping for a loaf of whole wheat bread how can I tell if it is refined or not? Is there even a difference? Is refined really all that bad?

All wheat is refined. All wheat is bad for you. Sorry... just sayin. Grains are seriously bad for the gut.

If it is "whole wheat" then you are good. If it just says wheat or white or made with whole grains then that is more refined.

If the texture is like white bread texture, even though it's "whole wheat," it's highly processed. I have a Great Harvest Bread Store near me, and their whole-grain wheat bread is full of texture, rough, and delicious.

Right now, my doctor has said no grains and no white potatoes, so I'm not eating either. Last year, he said that I could eat anything, in moderation, that was available 150 years ago, and recommended only whole-grain bread with a rough texture. Some say that the wheat we harvest today is quite different from that of 150 years ago, and not as healthy. I don't know--lots of debate on the web about this topic.
