Lose 50 lbs = grow an inch?

I heard on tv that men can sometimes grow an inch for every 30-50 lbs lost! Has anyone tested this?

Oh, and I sure hope this is true for women, too. I could be 5'3'' by the end of the year!

I was 5'4.5" when I was thin. 5'4.5" when I was at my heaviest. And I'm still 5'4.5" now. I don't think there is any truth to it.

Oh dear, are you sure it is height that they are supposed to grow?

Because I have heard that due to losing a layer of fat on the pelvis, men are expected to 'grow' somewhere an inch when they lose 30-50lbs. Pretty sure it won't be the same for women.

This seems a little more plausible.

It is not height. They say about 1/2 inch for every 30 lbs lost. My husband has lost almost 60 and I can assure you this is very true ;)

I "gained" a consistent (as in, morning or evening measuring) .25" after I took up strength training.

I imagine shedding excess weight (which affects posture)/strengthening muscles/learning to hold the body up properly doesn't create "growth," but reveals what was actually being hindered. A.k.a, slouching.

And there's no way it could be a consistent measure across the board.

As the fat layers shed and recede, "projections" from the body, previously enrobed by the fat layer at the attachment site, are further exposed. Trust me, I'm a scientist.

Think the difference between high and low tide. The rocks were always there, just could not see as much of them when the tide is high. At least, that's what I've heard...read...saw on cable...something like that.

    I don't know about the 50 lb = inch.

    Now where's my measuring tape?
