The Ice Cream Truck

Does anyone remember these fondly from their childhood? Have they gone way downhill where they look more like something no kid should ever get near, or were they always that bad and my memory is rose colored.

We still have one here. It's more like an ice cream van. I'll take one of these instead:1

We rarely saw those.
But I do remember, with great fondness, Di_ckie Dee's:

The little bells on the handlebars could induce an instant Pavlovian response in every kid within earshot.
Edit: oh for...that's not a cuss word, MFP0 -
Remember them but they are now fondly known as a paedophile van!0

I drive an ice cream truck, and it looks nothing like that. Of course, I don't sell crack either, so it could be comparing apples and oranges.0

Hah, pedophile van. I never ate anything out of those things. To this day, when I hear the ice cream van approaching, I cringe. It evokes a sense of fear in me, still at this age. Bad association with them.0

They were a good part of mine but I did have ONE BAD EXPERIENCE. We went up to one while at a park. For some reason he said he would have to come back. Well, he never did. Scarred for life. Think of that everytime I see one. That or a strawberry shortcake ice cream on a stick. Just too trusting as a child. -sigh-0

ice cream trucks gave way to food trucks. its amazing how many great meals can be had from a food truck.0

Oh look! A white windowless van! Now all it needs to say is "Free Candy" on it and I would so let my kids chase it down. Nothing suspicious about it at all.0

That van, only covered in stickers, is pretty much the ice cream van that visits the ghetto I live in. The driver is an abrupt d0uchecan0e, but considering that his livelihood is dealing the the sh*theads that live in our neighborhood and those like it, I cannot blame him.
He gets a lot of my husband's business. Buying ice cream from that van always feels kind of skeezy, but the bomb pops come in Jolly Rancher and Chocolate Banana.0 -

Here in Atlanta there is a food truck park where different eateries bring their trucks every day. Great food and awesome variety. It's a great change from the normal restaurant experience.0 -

In New York City they are parked in a lot of places.
In NJ we still have the ice cream truck come around. I have been at my Sister-in-law's and heard it and at the pool the guy still comes around
When I was a kid though I could be under water and would hear the ice cream truck arrive. Good Humour Ice Cream truck we had. But I also loved when Mister Softee truck came around when I lived in Brooklyn.0 -
