    My paternal grandmother was Acadian French. Her ancestors were in Cape Breton Island probably at the same time as dirty's but signed an oath of loyalty to the British crown and thus avoided expulsion. The "Cajun" of Louisiana is, I believe, just a contraction of the word "Acadian."
